Being ash it could vary a fair amount. I’ve experience some combustion’s significantly heavier then others.

Very True, my 2nd "Combustion 5" that was a replacement for a faulty one is 1lb, 11oz heavier.
Both made from exactly the same materials. It suits me, as it all the extra weight is in the body and I'm not feeling any of it on my shoulder, it'll never neck dive

This may be an unpopular opinion, but my experience has been that great gear CAN make you a better player in certain respects. Now, "great" is relative, but if you have a connection with a well-made, great-sounding instrument it can absolute inspire you and motivate you in ways a cheaper axe can't.
You can't buy your way to skill, but pinching pennies doesn't help either.
Ah - my basses are much like with my golf clubs and my guitars - they far outclass my abilities

I totally agree with this. Having super low action, smaller frets, better build, etc. etc. has helped me play better - and I can focus on notes and technique so much quicker.
indeed. If I hadn’t went ahead with my first Dingwall I may have stopped playing all together. I don’t know that but once I had that first AB2 in my hands I was definitely inspired to play more and get better.

I agree 100%. Buy what you want and can afford. For me when I joined TB I started a quest to find instruments that suited me. I loved the experiment. It's fun and exciting to try different basses, amps, cabs, effects etc.
The reality is, if it weren't for equipment enthusiasts like us, the hobbyists, amateurs, semi-pros etc. there would be NO boutique musical instrument business. Without us, say good bye to every boutique builder in the market and hello to mass market manufacturers as the only choice.

I had a good friend once. We're not so close any more since he made a comment about not understanding why anyone would own a guitar/bass that costs thousands of dollars. (he plays a fine MIM Fender Strat) Basically saying that anyone that walks on stage with an instrument that expensive is an idiot. He just couldn't understand, and I couldn't explain. C'est la vie.
Nobody needs that negativity in their life...good job on the turf. His loss.
Heck yeah...... a person can blow there money elsewhere if they like or justify whatever they choose to. I often equate it too trucks as that part of a way of life around here. New vehicle every 2 yrs etc. Wether it be lease or what not.....

If a condition of owning a Dingwall was some virtuoso ability I would not even come close, but thankfully it's nobody else's business what basses we buy. I completely agree that having a quality bass gives me more motivation to pick it up and play.
I've also spent many hours playing my ABZ and Combustion at punk rock shows in some of the dankest basements, that probably annoys some people too
