If a condition of owning a Dingwall was some virtuoso ability I would not even come close, but thankfully it's nobody else's business what basses we buy. I completely agree that having a quality bass gives me more motivation to pick it up and play.
I've also spent many hours playing my ABZ and Combustion at punk rock shows in some of the dankest basements, that probably annoys some people too

I’m totally a Sunday driver. I like functional art. I grew up appreciating woodwork, and I’m a musician. Seems like a good enough reason to splurge if I have the funds.

I am absolutely a mediocre player but thoroughly enjoy all of the basses I own. Using an American Football adage, "I outkicked my coverage" when it comes to basses and ability. But it is fun and I think I've entertained a few people over the years.

question! I think I asked in the past but does anyone know the screw size they use for mounting D Bird Custom pickups?

I'm going to try to make a custom thumb rest, I'll need longer screws though

Best bet is to take one to the hardware store and match it.

Most well stocked stores will have these cap head screws. I’m pretty sure it takes a 3/32 Allen.

I found the saddle screws too. I’ve picked up shorter saddle screws to lower the action with non tapered strings.

The screw size is 6-32. The length is either 1.25" or 1.5". I can't remember off hand.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but my experience has been that great gear CAN make you a better player in certain respects. Now, "great" is relative, but if you have a connection with a well-made, great-sounding instrument it can absolute inspire you and motivate you in ways a cheaper axe can't.

You can't buy your way to skill, but pinching pennies doesn't help either.

I’m a far better player because of my Dingwall purchases....

Well my most memorable NBD has finally come. I was glad that Fed Ex dropped off an immaculate instrument today - which with the professionalism and packing of John Fox and then Mo Mina I never doubted.

The bass is beautiful, the neck and balance are perfect and the sustain and tone are of course wonderful. I'll save a more thorough review and some recordings of the 6 way switch selection soon, as I need to get a better handle on all the tones and options. My first impression though is that I'm extremely glad I sent the bass to Mo and got your help here as my two favorite selections so far are the middle only and the "d-roc setting of all on". But I love all 6 but have to make notes lol because some I prefer in passive, some active and some with various combinations of the S/P switches.

Anyway, here's a quick pic I took this am after getting it and setting it on the stand. More stuff to come in the future though...

B-M series

I just had no idea how the B-N series would sound as I hadn't heard it before. With the B-M parallel I find that I can pretty much cop the same tones with the B-M series using the switches and eq so it's kind of redundant. But I've also only had it a few days so any insight on positions or eq and switch settings is appreciated!

I find the BN Series a weird mix of slightly scooped, slightly punchy, but mosly undefined and "nasal" - to be honest that's the one I never use... I suspect it may become interesting once I install P/S switches (all pickups are currently wired in series on both my DWs).

Good to know and I bet it will be great with the S/P switches. I've found they're awesome for varying the tones. In particular so far a go to for me has been when I have the bridge in combination to drop it to parallel and leave others in series.

Funny, I recently bought a guitar.
I played pretty much everything in the (rather big) store, which took 3 hours, and ended up with an expensive ibanez

And yes I tried the mim strats, they're nothing to write home about really ...
As a beginner they won't motivate you (which you might not need depending on age - I certainly do).
