Well, I finally did it and I ain’t a goin’ back.

I’ve had a set if TI flats saved for my SP/J4 for a while. Finally slotted 10 minutes to swap out the Cobalt flats to the TI’s and

Although well regarded, TI Flats didn't do it for my SPJ5 either. How is the voicing on those cobalt flats? Do they have a good balance of thump and articulation without too much clank? I went with DR Pure Blues which sound quite good but I'm looking for something with a bit less grind and finger noise.

I really like how the Mids on the TI’s act with the Wenge neck. It just seems to be a great match for me.
I’ve had Pure Blues and Pressure Rounds on it previously and was looking for something that would be similar in a flat and figured I’d give the cobalts a try. I didn’t really get on with the Cobalts as well as I thought I would but I left them on and kept trying. I think it was just the combo with the Wenge neck. I’m more of a vintage tone guy and that combo was a bit too strong in the upper Mids for me and I couldn’t get the balance to my liking no matter what I did with the tone knob. Great feel though and I’ll try them on another bass before I make any definitive judgement.

Sorry about your luck. I actually prefer the nice gig bags and that will be covered under shipping insurance but that doesn't at all help your frustration or time waiting for a fix or replacement.

Mine has a maple neck and Paul Ferro board so the mids might have a bit different emphasis. Did the Pressure Rounds have a smoother top end with less grind?

It is covered, just had to wait two weeks for one shipping company to not do their job only for another company to be brought in and finally do it and pick it up to have it sent back. It just blows my mind that instruments of this price are shipped this way.

I’ve actually had better luck with gig bags vs hard cases. It’s a mean world out there. My 4 space rack case with a fork lift blade through it can testify.

When I bought my first Dingwall (AB-1) in 2007, it came in a hard case. I don't find it odd. I guess most players are good with the gig bags. Sorry about the damage yours sustained. I wouldn't be surprised if some fellow Dingwallers jump in with some hard-case solutions soon. When I bought my used NG-2, it shipped in a generic hard case that actually fits quite well. They're out there. :cool:

They’re a sharp crew. I’m sure they’ve done the analysis on the cost of hard cases vs. soft and how it relates to shipping damage claims. I could come up with a few hypothetical reasons why they are using soft cases, but I’d be speculating.

Ya a hard care is a must in my opinion. Been hunting for the right one for awhile now but to no avail.
