I checked under the pickguard when I got it and could swear blind the cavity wasn't big enough to fit another pickup directly next to it but I might be imagining things. If I do have to route, I'd definitely be interested in swapping for an NG but I'm in the UK...
I did a few test recordings earlier and immediately noticed that my DingBanez (just... don't ask) has a more defined pick attack but I much prefer the overall tone of the Combustion, especially the low end.

The 'old' rout was designed so you could do the 'C1' configuration (Bridge/Neck) or the 'C2' (Bridge/Middle) you just can't do a 3 pickup without routing.

I guess I saw an old C > NG3 mod and that's what I was thinking of when I said it had a route not big enough.
If you have the tools and are brave enough, routing an older Combustion for 3X is pretty simple. Even an old bass player can do it

I'm definitely brave enough but I can't bring myself to do an irreversible mod on this so I'll use it as-is for the meantime. Funnily enough, your linked post was what inspired me to mod my Ibanez SR500 about a year ago!
It is actually very reversible if you keep the old pickguard! I've got all the parts that came off that bass in a large FedEx box in storage so the next "owner" can put it back if they want.
That person would have a heck of a time getting all that yellow off the neck though

Thanks to my amazing partner who insisted I get one of my favourite Dingwalls for my birthday (she even contributed half the $). Although this bass has changed hands about 7 times in the last 2 years, it is absolutely mint and has likely found its permanent home. Thanks to John Fox (@xnewyorka) for the AMAZING service, chats, emails, text messages and super easy transaction.
Here’s the new bass and its siblings.
Thanks to my amazing partner who insisted I get one of my favourite Dingwalls for my birthday (she even contributed half the $). Although this bass has changed hands about 7 times in the last 2 years, it is absolutely mint and has likely found its permanent home. When I bought it for the 3rd time, I thought "Third time's the charm", and I was really planning on keeping it for good. So you can thank @AB Nate for talking me into letting you take possession of it.

Nice Voodoo...what's the backstory on it? Later 90's?
I got the Voodoo from jimc here on TB. I asked Sheldon what year it was, but all he could say was that from the 1089 serial number it was pre fire. As I’m reading through this thread I found a post by swpyne who owned it farther back. He stated that Sheldon told him it was a 1995. It’s a beautiful transparent blue that I can’t get a decent picture of with my phone. It has Aguilar OBP-3 preamp, Kahler Saddles and Sperzel locking tuners.
New 5 string D Roc Custom I just got! I wanted a 5 string D Roc/Bird for so long and had to buy it instantly when I saw the post on Instagram. Looks great with my Super PJ.
It sounds as good as it looks... That would be AMAZING!!! I'm familiar with the Glockenglang as I also have it in my SJ. The dual density ash is a brilliant idea. I'm forever trying to brighten the lower strings while fattening the high strings. This works! Tone wise, it sits perfectly between the smoothness of the SJ and the aggressive NG, while being able to almost copy both. Every pick up combination sounds great. I just got to play it for a few hours today ans still have lots to learn about it. The neck is also a dream to play. Overall, I would say I'm 100% satisfied. I thi k this might be a long honeymoon.

And yes, I already thanked @AB Nate for helping me find this beauty. He also found my NG3 in Calgary and even had the store manager put it aside for me. We've chatted a lot via text messages and on the phone (from across the country). I curse him sometimes. Lol
There's also @Waltsdog who let me try his collection of Dingwalls a couple years ago, which brought me down this rabbit hole. And @RussT who found my SJ in Toronto, @Lowendtech with whom I've had several discussions and almost ended up with his Z3 and SP. I've learned a lot about Dingwall on this thread and made quite a few friends at the same time.
