Took me a while to realize that NBD meant no big deal here, not new bass day.Honestly it's NBD.

Check out Newtone Strings if you're looking for something other than Dingwall strings. You can get pretty much any gauge you want. Newtone Strings – British Handmade Guitar StringsQuick question guys, I ordered payson stainless steel strings last night for my dbird, they are .45 .65 .85 and .105. I play in standard tuning only. Are the E and A strings going to have way too much tension then? I didn’t see an option for a lighter gauge then that for stainless steel strings on payson’s website.

Yeah, that's a pretty heavy tension set. Going to String Tension Calculator ...
I'm not sure why many of the Payson sets have such heavy gauges.
@Blues Cat - care to weigh in and share your thoughts?
Our strings are designed specifically for Fanned Fret Basses 37”-34”. We adjust the internal construction so they won’t have the note chocking increased tension of say an OTC set made for parallel fret Basses. You may need to tighten your TR slightly if you’re coming from Extra-lite SS’s.
You’ll also be able to dig in harder with way less fret rattle.
They are manufactured for a Fanned Fret Bass’s longer scales. We make internal construction adjustments to keep the tension down/gauges fatter for more low mid punch/energy/gain. When your fingers experience that they relax contributing to economy of motion. At least mine do....
We’ve made changes over the years to see if we can bring even more sonic magic across the set models.
For example, the Payson Fanned NS sets have been changed from:
.130T .105T .085T .065T .045 to
.128T .102T .083T .064T .044
Sweet spot brightness combined with low mid punch.
You should try them. You don’t know what you’re missing.
If you have a custom drop tuning or the current sets don’t meet your needs, we can also build you a custom set from our new H-SL singles. We also have the original singles at the bottom of the landing page.

Hmmm... I just got a four pack a week or two ago and I got the old gauges. Recent change? Or is this because I got SS?We’ve made changes over the years to see if we can bring even more sonic magic across the set models.

Well I’ve been enjoying my NG3 5 string so much to the point where I started yearning for a 4 string Dingwall. Then I come across this on the classifieds and I may have made an impulse purchase haha.
Wow am I glad I did! I’ve always adored the look of T-birds but I’ve never been able to get on with them in my hands. I hated the balance on a strap, the feel of the lacquered up necks, the weight of the ones I’ve tried, etc.
This thing has the look I wanted with feel that is so much more preferable to me. The neck is super smooth and I’m in love with the profile of it. The strap button placement on the back was an amazing idea, it sits perfect on a strap. The 4 way pickup selector gives this thing so much versatility as well. I’m starting to become a Dingwall fanboy!

Thanks! The Payson Fanned SS sets haven’t changed. SS has less tension, so it feels similar the PFNS’s new formula. You’d think it would be the opposite.
I'm interested in these as there is practically nothing available in a slightly lighter gauge than regular Dingwall strings. Which ones do you have, just wondering if the taper option fits right?
I'll have to give them a try! Cool to see another string option.I made a custom set of .048, .064, .082, .124. Diamond style, stainless steel, hexagonal core, taper on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string.

Just something to note, I did notice that the taper seems to be somewhat far from the bridge. I haven't noticed any tonal differences and still plays fine though. They sound great and the .124 for the low C feels amazing and sounds super tight.
