When I originally talked to the shop, they redirected to Chandler aka 'Pickguard Heaven' The only problem was that if you want something that changes the outside perimeter of the guard from your 'original' they won't do it. In fact, even though it was just pickup placement for me after I mentioned it and showed them the original and the template...they never returned my emails.

Terrapin was great. I did three with them (yep, DW, you could have had a $200+ job out of it and didn't want the work)...

All three take a little trimming/sanding around the pickups, but I knew they would. Worked great and Terrapin was good to work with.

My Combustion had the stock tuners on it and I wanted a drop tuner. I ordered one directly from Hipshot. I paid extra for the USA labeled double drop tuner. It was so much nicer and smoother than the factory tuners, that I replaced the other 4 with ones that matched. Not the cheapest upgrade, but made me happy and I think it was worth it.

There was one problem. Both times that I ordered they sent me the wrong tuners and we had to do a return. Apparently Hipshot is used to the headstocks on the Canadian basses and the import ones have different tuners. Be sure to call and order on the phone and tell them exactly what you have the thickness of the head stock and tell them that it is NOT RECESSED. Hipshot was super nice and the returns were painless. But still....

You are correct. ;) The tuners on the AB's are shorter (thus that cool counter-bore). Unlike the Combustions they don't have string trees, so the shorter posts that are inset pull the strings down to the correct angle. I believe that the ones that fit on the Combustions are the 'standard' hipshots, not the Dingwall-customized version.

As well as being shorter, the posts are tapered. When I ordered from the Hipshot site, I received tuners with the typical non-tapered posts. Worked like a charm on the Combustion. :cool:

Hey dingwallians,

I made my yearly stop into the Bazaar yesterday(I always forget about the dang place) and it got me thinking after my perusal.....

I had no idea @xnewyorka (John) had his assortment, amongst many others, of his dingwalls FS there..... with that I followed it up with a poll thread as I personally would prefer to see the assortment listed in there amongst the much more frequented classifieds instead I think.
There’s lots of beauty stuff in that bazaar that I’m assuming gets considerably overlooked.
Anyways check it out and cast a vote if you like.

TB Bazaar. Does anyone use it?

not to mention check the bazaar Dingwall goodies too!

I finally ordered some Payson stainless steel strings for my Combustion yesterday. I haven't used stainless strings in ages, but I'm thinking I'll like them better on Dingwalls than other basses. I have some nickel low riders on my NG3 that are okay but a little stiff. The new string tone wore off faster than I expected, but that's how my experience has been with any nickel string.

How many folks here are using stainless Paysons?

I do use stainless strings on some rigs depending on the desired tone for that bass and placement in a style of music.
I find they take a few days/hours(bit of playtime) to settle in just right. I mean they sound awesome right off the bat but a little finger live on them changes the feel in short order.

I just ordered some of the flats to try out. Hope springs a turtle. I haven't used the Payson ones, but used to love the original Dingwall formulation. I didn't love the more recent ones when I tried them. They were much harsher to play than the old ones.
