Dingwall Owners Club

Fretwraps are a popular option.

As @SnoozeButtonBen mentioned, GruvGear FretWraps are pretty commonly used for this: FretWraps String Muters (3-Pack)

They're somewhat elastic wraps that go around the neck. You can have it sitting above the nut, and then quickly slide it down a bit to give yourself muting on the strings.

Not to mention it naturally puts emphasis on the muting of the B string

Thanks guys. I have a fretwrap but the issue is wanting to play open notes on the other 4 strings. If I don't need the open string notes it's good though.
I'm guessing @Waltsdog is probably right with a simple piece of foam for just one string.

It won't come as a surprise to many here, but for a moment I want to sing the praise of the 3x switch three pickup Dingwall design...DANG is it cool! I brought my new Combustion 6 to band practices last week, and it was so much fun to be bouncing between "MM", "J", and "P" pickup sounds in different songs. I could be on "MM" or "J" setting in a slap focused song to get myself some extra shine in the mix, then flip into the "P" setting and drop into the background while still having my amazing Dingwall clarity across the frequency range. SO FUN :hyper:

The whale pool burst finish over the quilt top is a real stunner, and the overall instrument oozes cool.

I'm a really happy camper. I think I'm adjusting to 6 strings well, too!

Mission accomplished, @Sheldon D. and company

Just don't cinch it down tight. I keep mine on the first fret just slightly snug and I get plenty of sustain when I want it as well as muting when I need it.

Just put on a new set of Payson's SS and there is a unique slight warbling in the upper harmonics. Especially on the B, E, & A. Like just a little chorus is added. Kind'a cool so far.
I ran into this once a long time back with a set of LaBella Super Steps on a Fender Victor Bailey Jazz V. Their taper exposes the core though.

I've had it on a number of E strings in SS 4 string sets over the years. No idea but I'm guessing dr. Payson will reapond.

I thought I read somewhere that a chorus effect could be the pickups being too close to the strings and strong magnets can cause this.

Not specific to these strings or bass, but in general.

Good Luck!

Hmmm... I did an adjustment on the pickups and brought them up. I'll have to check that. Thanks!

I just put on a set of Payson SS & like them. Bit punchier then the Nickels, not overly bright,
tonal balance better on the D&G when going across from the BE&A strings & the low B is outstandingly
more articulate. I'm a happy plonker. :hyper::hyper:

Just got my new Microtubes X Ultra in the mail, opened the box and it is missing a screw on the bottom plate :bawl: I sure hope it wasn’t messed with then returned and sold as new! Probably shouldn’t bug me as much as it is. Rant over, now time to plug this bad boy in and hope everything works!

Give them a bit of time to breathe. I'd say after day 3 you may even like em more... I feel they are bit excited coming outta the package but settle in nicely After 48 hrs and a little flex

To me this usually indicates a twist in the string. Unwinding it, straightening and reinstalling the string meticulously usually gets it done for me.

I would try lowering your pu’s into the body 1/4 turn. (Maybe half a turn)
Our B, E, A and D are tapered on the PFSS’s.
The slightly larger string gauge and taper will bring the string closer to the pu adding more punch/energy/volume.
If it’s too much, just simply lower the pu’s.

I'm not waiting on a build, but am curious. Does anyone know why the wenge for necks is in short supply?

I am waiting on a wenge neck build, the only info we have been given is 'supply chain' issues.

That said, I believe most wenge comes from the Congo which has a whole host of issues ranging from armed conflict to ebola just in a regular week. Once you add covid on top you can see why things in that supply chain might have gone a bit wonky from the bottom up.
Wenge is also listed as 'endangered' (albeit that information is very old Invalid Link Removed) so you also have the fact that it will just be less readily available.

I'd be interested to hear from @Sheldon D. whether there are ethical issues causing problems in the wenge sourcing. I really love a wenge neck but if it can't be ethically sourced that is a good enough reason for me to change and switch it out for something else.

I figured that covid would factor in. The response has definitely succeeded in interrupting several supply chains. Unintended consequences strike again...:rollno:

I love my wenge neck, but right now my favorites are bubinga (which you can't get right now either) or walnut.

Well, after a shortish wait, D-Roc #6141 arrived in my hands last Monday. This is my 3rd Dingwall in less than a year. What can I say, I've caught the Dingwall disease.

(Long story short, I managed to get wind a dealer here in Aus had this bass on order but with no ones name on it!)

Here it is. D-Roc 5, Ari Gold, Wenge/Wenge neck, Drop-A tuner. It is an amazing bass. I roughly knew what I was getting myself into owning D-Bird. This actually sounds quite different, probably due to the wenge neck.

Goes nicely next to my D-Bird & Lee Sklar I. I can't wait to gig it but that might be quite a while given the current restrictions here in Victoria, Australia.
