Ahhhhhhh, the anticipation is killing me. It’s getting here a day early.

Meanwhile, USPS decided that the Payson strings I ordered should go from Texas to Pennsylvania before being sent to California. I have no ETA for those, just that they’ve left Philadelphia.

It’s here! Pardon the crappy action shot. I only had about 20 minutes to tear it from the box and jam.

It’s an amazingly different beast compared to the SP5. Much flatter, thinner neck.
The little banjo frets. Previous owner had a ramp made for it which my finger catches on when I try to pop on the G.

There’s way more versatility in the Z2 pickup arrangement than I anticipated. I was dumb and thought the neck and bridge pickups would sound pretty similar; they do not.

The metallic blueberry is actually a really eye catching color, and next to my Capri Orange SP5 it’s like an action movie poster color scheme.

The 3 band Glockenlang is very powerful, but it’ll mostly get played in passive mode. The previous owner also had a built-in tuner installed, which I’ll get a video of in action because it’s actually pretty neat, if a bit superfluous.

Great balance, just a touch heavier than my SP. Overall a really unique complement to my SP5. The broken in, old style steel strings even feel and sound pretty nice!

Thank you! It truly is a beautiful bass! Yeah I'm emailing Dingwall tonight to make absolutely sure. Not sure when I'll put it up, but I'll just put this out there for anyone who may be interested in trading a super P/J for an ABII (plus some negotiations for any price differences), I would be interested.

Nice one. Yeah, the Z necks are decidedly NOT AB/C necks...very different vibe. I think the Z2 setup provides plenty of tonal territory, and the series mode is possibly even better to me than a B/N series mode. You can EQ in the lows but you get more clarity and tightness out of it.

Yeah, series is tight and fat in a way that’s so different from the SP. I also really dig the Sklar switch, which goes bridge/parallel/neck/series, basically “thinnest” to “fattest”, even if there is no thin sounds to be had on this bass.

Honestly, While that color wouldn't be at the top of my list for personal wants, it looks pretty nice as is. Is that an LED for the preamp? I'm not sure I've seen that before, but I haven't in general spent much time eyeballing the Sklar models out there.

Thoughts on the ramp? I wouldn't want it there, but how 'integrated' into the bass is it? Will there be any visible damage left by it?

The LED and switch are for the built in tuner. It flashes blue for flat, red for sharp, increasing in speed as you get closer to pitch, then turns green when you're in tune. I can't think of a practical use for it since I have a pedal tuner, but it's neat.

The ramp is interesting and this is my first time experiencing it. Really doesn't effect my finger or pick playing, but definitely hampers my slapping (more my popping, like I said about the G string). It's held on by double sided tape so I'll take it off when I change strings.
