Hi all, I'm sure many of you have had this feeling but I'm falling in love with my Combustion all over again, partly because of the new toys but also just because it's a damn fine instrument.

I can't get enough of the series mode plus the Darkglass preamp slightly boosted, so much growl. Got a set of drop A Payson strings headed to me and working back up my slap and double thumb chops, it's a great feeling.

I know that feeling. It was a bit of an ordeal to get my NG3 up to Canada from the US. I had it sent to the closest UPS store to me since I likely would be at work whenever it was going to be delivered but the UPS store refused the shipment due to the import charges, and they were going to do a return to sender. I eventually got it sorted with UPS on the phone, but it was a stressful couple of days till I was able to take possession of the bass.

Damn shipping companies :spit:

Do you know the trick to avoiding UPS broker fees?

Yes never use UPS for shipping anything across the border if you can avoid it, that is most definitely the trick ;).
You can also clear it through customs yourself which is a lot easier if you're near a CBSA office that provides that service (and obviously given the current situation, is actually even open).
The other option is do the shipping forwarding thing from the states, I've not done it with a bass yet, but works great for records and other random things that companies refuse to ship across border.

Blue/purple color shift. My first Dingwall.

It’s funny, since I first saw one profiled in one of those bass magazine annuals back in the mid 90s, I’ve wanted a Dingwall. Dearly wanted a 5, then a 6, when I first got one of those. Never pulled the trigger, and I kind of dropped off of playing altogether for more than a decade.

Now, I have a D Roc on the way, and have a deposit down for an NG-3 six-string, with an expected date in May.

Yeah UPS wasn't my first choice but the dealer I got it from said it was gonna be my best option since I didn't really trust postal service with something so valuable right around Christmas time. Fedex was gonna cost double what UPS was. I didn't actually pay any broker fees thanks to the dealer suggesting I go for UPS express service. It's more expensive upfront but you save a bit in the end since you don't pay a broker fee (cause it goes on a plane I assume?) I just paid the taxes and import fees that go to the government.

Figuring out the shipping was a bit of an ordeal in itself. The dealer had quoted me a price with fedex and that's what we were going to go with, but then it ended up being more expensive when they went to put it through. We then figured out UPS was going to be better price wise but still more expensive than I was quoted, but they ended up covering the difference on their end since it took a few days of back and forth to get everything sorted and on its way.

The old Dingwall Acquisition Syndrome (DAS), it's hard to have only one. ;) :cool:

yes. Air express. Costs more up front but worth it IMO. No ground brokerage, less hands passed through too

O my gosh the super looks amazing! More and more I'm wanting a Super. Would probably move my ABII to get one...

Fortunately my local main branch does bring in a few, mostly Chinese, every year amongst some other goodies but not like it used to be. Back before I knew what’s good I remember there being a couple MTDs on the wall(I think) and definitely some beauty Warwick’s. A couple Smiths perhaps. That was before L and M was even a Dingwall dealer but the selection of instruments used to be drool worthy for sure. Now...... meh, I do look forward to used gear that pops up.
