Damn those are some beauty basses! That purple and green is killer. The Fretless is super classy looking too!
I have a 6 string unlined parallel fretless that I’m learning to play. I can’t imagine unlined fanned intonation, that would seem to me to be fairly painful. But then again, parallel turned out more easy than I thought, so I suppose it’s just a matter of practice, practice, practice.

the Maple one is no slouch and photos don’t ever seem to do it justice. The green/purple is the most magnificent instrument I’ve laid hands on. The wenge neck is next level

Yes it is Nate. This bass is special as it is a Euro 4, but it was an "artist build" so it went to Woodstock for post production abalone inlays in the neck (instead of MOP). Solid alder wings (instead of maple/alder combo). Doug Wimbish neck (1.5" nut). Then I removed the DG Tone Capsule and replaced it with the 9v HAZ circuit (lord I wish I could put one of those in a Dingwall). It had the sweetest growly tone. Hmmm... do I sell my bird for it? (sigh)
Oh, and it's a JJ config instead of PJ.

No. I left record to others in the past and now I’m playing catch up. I’m slow with technology so it’s a bit painful but it’s finally rolling hopefully soon

I thought it would be fun to grab an older heavy solid bubinga AB and drop some EMGs and an 18 v haz in.

Yeah I hear you. There aren't enough hours in the day for all the projects I would like to partake in. Life has a habit of getting in the way haha.
I restrung the Sklar with Payson’s red-package nickels today and took off the ramp as it interfered too much with my popping. Now I’ve found that not having anything under the strings is also weird. I’ve played my SP5 so much that I’m used to there being Elsa gap thanks to the pickguard. I may commission a thinner ramp or small pickguard if clear acrylic for the bass.
I had to crank the truss rod quite a bit due to the tension difference between the strings that were on it and the new Payson strings. There was a mix up with my order wherein I got a set of stainless strings by mistake, so he’s sending me a set of the lighter gauge nickels to replace them.
I sure do like this bass. I could probably leave the pickup selector in series mode and just tweak the EQ or tone control for every sound I’d need.
Is it okay to hang the bass like this, with the Hipshot detuner lever taking a lot of the downward force? I’ve never had a bass with a detuner, so it was also surprising to see how it actually functions.

My SJ's been hanging like that for nine years with no problem. The Hipshot in my case is just gently resting against the hanger and isn't the sole point of contact on that side of the neck. The rotation of the Sklar tuner heads back toward the body (and therefore the Hipshot lever) and what *could* be a slight angle to the hanger might put additional pressure on the Hipshot in your case, but I would think that the tuner assembly could take a fair amount of weight, and it's at least distributed across the neck (the right side of the headstock is taking half).

The cardboard box is pretty beat up, and I was sweating it as I opened it up, but that is a superb gig bag, and even it wasn’t even scuffed.

I usually flip mine to D and point the lever straight down before hanging up to be safe. The weight directly on the lever always made me a little nervous... Different hanger styles probably yield different results though.
