Wow, I might actually prefer this bass over the typical Prima Artist. It has all the design elements I like from the Prima coupled with a Warwick-like "chunky wood" vibe.

Wow, I might actually prefer this bass over the typical Prima Artist. It has all the design elements I like from the Prima coupled with a Warwick-like "chunky wood" vibe.
I'd really like to see carbon fibre being used....as much as I love wenge (wish I had a dingwall with a wenge neck too) carbon fibre feels so damn nice on the acoustics I have as a fingerboard

Taken this morning, I called the session when the wind tried to use my D-Roc’s body as a sail, and near tipped the stand over. Very, very glad I was paying attention and caught it before it could tumble to the rocks.
This afternoon, I have it a VERY minor truss rod tweak, then got a chance to sit and play it through my rig this evening.
I LOVE this bass, so damn much. It feels fantastic, sounds great across all of the pickup selections and nearly the whole range of the tone pot (all the way on, it sounds...muffled?) and makes me seem like a far better player than I am. I couldn’t be happier with a four string than I am with this.

Man I’m loving the finishes on the D-Roc standards. But strictly in my own opinion, a different fingerboard would mesh better with pretty much all but the sunburst model. Imagine ebony on the satin black or maple on the color shift.
I know I’m being picky but everything about these basses is so sleek and badass, I’m just not feeling the light brown with everything else that’s going on.
I could see it working with silver or natural finishes, though.
Are there any plans for new aesthetic options on the Standards in the future?

Personally I’m not a fan of composite necks...I tried to like them but there’s a sterility to the ones I’ve tried. My Dingwall had carbon fiber in the necks and I’m a fan of that.
My matte black guard came in and my girlfriend helped me take some half decent pictures this time for you guys. This is pretty exaggerated due to light but better for pics than the flat dusty black thing that happens (which is still cool to me)
Matte black really rounds this out and makes it feel closer to a normal finish to my eye.
I started using a Payson .145T NS for drop A. Been shedding a lot of traditional slap mixed with double thumb but the whole Evan Brewer dirty slap thing as apposed to more polite styles. This bass really excels at that kind of thing.

Man that’s so cool. The matte p/g is definitely the way to go. Nicely done!

Does anyone know if the following wiring update would be possible on 3 pickup models, at least from a conceptual level (IE ignoring the extra knob hole that is needed)?
The idea is to use two 2x pickup selector knobs to control pickup selection. The first would be hooked up to the bridge and middle pickups and allow choosing between the bridge/middle each solo’d, in parallel or in series. The second knob would treat the output from the first selector as “one pickup”, and the neck pickup as the other pickup. So you could have the output from the two other pickups solo’d, the neck pickup solo’d, or whatever setting the other two pickups had in parallel or series with the neck.
To me this seems like a great way to get added versatility into the instrument, as pretty much any combination of the 3 pickups becomes possible. I really like my d-roc standard so far, but I’m kind of curious what the neck and middle pickup in series or neck and bridge in parallel would sound like on it. I know nothing about bass wiring or electronic internals, so I’m not sure if this is possible from a wiring perspective.

Nice. It's funny, I don't think I use anything but the middle pickup on my D-bird, and anticipate the same on my incoming D-roc.

(read I forgot to photoshop out a knob). Yeah I only used the middle pickup on mine, I don't wanna pay for the two I don't use. It would actually be nice to have every pickup combination available on every bass in the custom line, a D-roc with a split P or PJ setup would also be amazing.

Both of these are possible. In fact I’ve seen the “cascaded 2x” setup before. Pretty sure that was in a Facebook group though, not here.
That finish and the silver are my faves on the D-Roc. I’d love to see them on Standards at some point.
I know the pickups were probably the updates you were referring to, though.
I might be into the NG setup. Middle solo is my favorite position on my NG3 with a D-Bird switch, but I think I’d probably use B+M series quite a bit.
Yes they are but an FD3 or FDV has a reverse P coil setup (from memory) and they sound pretty different to the split coil P in the Super P or Super J.
A P-tone would be the way to get that sound in a long scale bass (I have 2 of them) but I still prefer the split coil P from the Supers.
Ideal world I'd have a PJ D-Roc 5 but it would probably mean a redesign of both the body and the pickup due to the string spacing.
