It could also just be a very special order for an VIP endorser/customer. Stranger things have happened.

I always wondered what a truly balanced tension set (or close to it) would be like. I'll find out. Also, I opted for the smaller wrap, in case they're a good fit on the fretless.

Indeed! But it is definitely an unusual super headstock.

  3. Sorry, I mixed the subject...I thought it was about the D-Roc in the front of the picture. Because I am too nervous waiting for my D-Roc Standard-5 to be produced and shipped LOL

Sweet! I'll order the brighter ones and give a review too. Did they have a tension calculator or did you use a different one?

I used this one, and fudged the gauges up or down based on what the calculator had for numbers vs. what Newtone had for numbers to be as close as I could.

    String Tension Calculator

I started out by inputting the scale length & stock Dingwall strings the fussed it out from there.

I'm also awaiting a custom set of LaBella tapewounds to try on the fretless as well. Those are basically on 'special order/delivery TBD' for whenever.

Reminds me of the ones they made with the screwplate...

Wow, that's pretty crazy that the A string is the odd one out. Usually on a 34 inch scale it's the D string that is a good 10 pounds more than the rest.

Thanks for posting because I was going to just get the same gauges as the medium light Payson set but I'll try it as close as possible now.

I still see the D string being the highest tension, so check what you're plugging in.

Here's as close in the calc. as you can get to the Dingwall set:

This is the custom set of round core:

    And these are the hex:

And note that my gauges may fuss by .001 or .002 on one side or the other based upon what Newtone had available, which will do things like move that A up a few pounds to be closer to the other strings.

oh yeah, I was plugging in the Payson medium light gauges which brings the D string close to the rest.

Also these are going on a Super for you? because I just measured 39 inches from nut to ball end on my Combustion, I'm not sure if that really matters but yeah.

You might be pleasantly surprised w/our SS 4string set, the E, A and D are Tapered. If you keep a brand new set tuned down it’ll have more pleasing tension, not too flabby, than if you tune down a really worn in set.

No, I mis-entered it on my order...I've already emailed them to ask to change the measurement for both sets.

Alright, here's what I got for mostly balanced in drop D

    - Style: Diamond
    - Wrapping material: Nickel Plated Steel
    - String length from ball end to nut: 39 inches
    - Core type: Hex
    - Taper at bridge: 3rd, 4th, 5th
    - 1st: .044 wound
    - 2nd: .058 wound
    - 3rd: .076 wound *
    - 4th: .110 wound *
    - 5th: .130 wound *

Didn't want to shy too far away from the medium light gauging because of fear that I won't like them, those strings already feel quite light to me. I asked them that if they have any resources regarding balanced tension for their stuff specifically to kindly share with us.

Hopefully I like these so I'll have more options for custom gauging moving forward.

Yeah, for me it's an experiment. We'll see. ;) I've always ended up back where I started, but I keep trying, particularly with the Fretless.
