I agree. I’ve been told you don’t need to loosen the tension but it’s still a practice for me. Simply less strain on that hex screw while adjusting.

Less wear where the strings ride on the screw heads and on the saddle/plate. Also easier on that hex adjuster.

My first Dingwall, picked it up this weekend. I would never have considered ordering a bass in this color (Lamborghini Orange) but after seeing it in the flesh I had to have it. Also my first fanned fret bass AND my first five string.

Oh, I love how the wood figures flow on that top! Splendid. I also love the look of old style "thinline" SF-2s in that 2+1 configuration. Much sleeker in my opinion.

And nice gear overall - Lee Sklar would appreciate

Does anyone here in the Dingwall braintrust know what kind of quantities of 4 string Combustions with square end/rectangular pickups are out there? Or is that a Billy at Dingwall question?

I'm kind of itching for one of those since my NG and DBird aren't getting as much love lately.

Probably a Billy (through Sheldon) question. Not as many as the current ones, obviously given the increased popularity in the past few years. The EMG shells lasted through three iterations (through v3)...

Also, remember the earliest are 2-band EQ preamps with blend, and lots without pickguards.

still one of my favorites! I love the light “whisp” on the upper horn but that top is simply amazing.

I still have the pics saved of that top pre paint.

I don’t think you’ll find a 4 knob 4 string but I do believe you’ll find a 5 knob

My ng3-6 arrived today. What a beast! I’m gonna need to spend some time to get used to it. It is my first 6-string in over 25 years of playing after all, and it’s MUCH different than my Strandberg.

Quick q. This thing is all grind all the time. I barely need a distortion pedal anymore. Any tips on smoothing out the tone a bit to mellow out some of that fur? I tried rolling on some bass and dipping the mids but it doesn’t help that much and gets too bass heavy in any case.

Fwiw, I gravitate towards the bridge/neck jazz-style pu config. I’m thinking of lowering the pickups a touch to tame the output because they do seem fairly high (with either the B or C string fretted at the 24th fret, maybe 1-2 credit cards between the pickups and string).
