Dingwall Owners Club

I will say curiosity just got the best of me…..

I just removed the batteries from my super with a glock and my Z6 with a DGTC and both work without batteries installed in passive mode which I thought to be the case. I think the same applies to the production basses.
I think that the Import models are different in this regard. I seem to recall my NG3 going silent when I yanked the battery out. But I don't own it any longer to re-validate. My glock loaded Canadian builds work without battery.

Both my Dingwalls play fine in passive mode with batteries removed.
The Spector is dead without battery (doesn't have a passive mode).
I don’t recall what pups are in your spector but if they are the active EMGs there’s no how that thing will work without batteries. If they are passive you should be able to add a switch but may not be as pleased with the results. Which would most likely be why the builder never included it To begin with.

I suppose it’s possible but it’s don’t think so. I know I’ve gone into l and m and had to get the staff to add batts as only passive worked.
I could be mistaken.

Tested this with my NG-3 just now. I yanked the batteries and connected to my pedal board’s tuner. In passive, the bass registers on the tuner, in active it does not.

May depend on the preamp. I generally don’t take out or put in batteries when plugged in so as not to have a short or other issue that might kill a preamp. I have had basses where no battery would kill signal in either passive or active. I haven’t checked any of mine recently. And I always play active and make sure I’ve got good batteries.

The whole Spector thing is built around active mode with their famous HAZ preamp and active EMG pickups making this Spector signature tone. Been there for 10 years but went active/passive or fully passive basses these days.

I am sick and tired waiting for my D-Roc Standard 5...it was supposed to be here in May but still no idea when I can put my hands on it. I’ve already played two gigs with my other basses when I was supposed to play D-Roc...and honestly, I am quite happy with my other basses so I might sell my first Dingwall even before it gets here because I just lost any interest to it during this half a year wait. Sad but that’s life...

I'm waiting for mine too Anton.
I went through a period of loosing interest a bit when they were delayed the last time, but we're hopefully on the last leg of waiting, so I'm once more looking forward to receiving it ( although trying not to get excited in case they are delayed again ).
I'm certain it'll be well worth the wait when it arrives.

That’s exactly why I’m afraid of ordering one…

I know what you feel... While I’ve been waiting for my D-Roc I bought Sandberg VM5 and fell in love with it. Excellent B string with just a 34” scale? Yes it is. It is possible and depends on the quality and the design. So now I feel kinda “do I still need a multi scale bass”...

I must admit I’m still waiting just lost some excitement. It still can become a game changer for me, hopefully it will. If it plays as good as the 4 string version that I was lucky to test once, I’d be a happy camper.

yeah, Dirks Spector is an older one and can have one of many sets of electronics in it. Dimarzio, Aguilar, bartolini. Emg hi, Etc. all passive pick up options…..

Sounds like a day-trip to Bass Central is in order...less than 2 hours away and they currently have plenty of NG, Combustion and D-Rocs in stock. You'd probably be able to compare to a Spector as well as some others. I honestly love my Super-P but don't find that it does the grindy-modern vibe as natively or effectively as the longer scale Dingwalls.
Hey there!
If you want to call the store before you arrive with a list of any basses you'd like to try out, we can get them ready in advance to streamline the process! We look forward to seeing you :)

Thanks

Yikes, haven't heard that before! Are you emailing [email protected]?

Can you also describe your problems with the neck a bit more? Maybe we can give you some more things to look at and try while the email issue gets sorted.

I found that the truss rod was harder to move on the ABZs I’ve owned. You might just need to give it more force than feels comfortable.

My neck keeps on moving back, as though the rod is being tightened (of course without me tightening it) and when I try to loosen the rod and induce some relief, the truss nut loosens and spins very easily with no resistance but the neck won’t move forward at all.
The neck has moved back so much the G and C strings are being choked out at anything below the 10th-12th fret and I have no control over the neck movement. The nut is loosened completely, I’ve turned it several revolutions and the neck hasn’t come forward at all. I’ve been at this for the last 6 weeks, I’ve been slow and patient with it but it’s still moving back.

Someone pee pee in your cornflakes this morning? The whole world is waiting on something right now. Ford can’t produce certain vehicles due to backlogged parts, people are waiting for their houses to be completed due to missing parts.

Your waiting on a first run bass.

Meaning, every step of the way(ie. Waiting on a prototype from the NEW factory for approval or…..) could have possibly been delayed, let alone just a batch of these things finally leaving the factory floor. Every major port in the world is backlogged.

Waiting is a common problem right now.
For a bass guitar I’d say that’s definitely a first world problem.

So it has some backbow and the nut is coming loose from the truss rod vs tensioning it?
