Dingwall Owners Club

I hope you got it for a bit cheaper than the classified on here...I wanted to call that guy out for the price but not my place.
Got it in a trade the bass feels great to play its super comfortable and the sound is buttery smooth, so I’m assuming it’s something electronic going on. But the original owner did a lot of work to it.

This may suggest something positive in the near future for some here.

Someone pee pee in your cornflakes this morning? The whole world is waiting on something right now. Ford can’t produce certain vehicles due to backlogged parts, people are waiting for their houses to be completed due to missing parts.

Your waiting on a first run bass.

Meaning, every step of the way(ie. Waiting on a prototype from the NEW factory for approval or…..) could have possibly been delayed, let alone just a batch of these things finally leaving the factory floor. Every major port in the world is backlogged.

Waiting is a common problem right now.
For a bass guitar I’d say that’s definitely a first world problem.

Logistic issues caused by pandemic, really? Thanks for opening my eyes on that lol I've been in supply chain management since 1999 and apart from risk management there're also two things as planning and expectation management. It happened after a nearly year of pandemic was already in place so a clear message on the unexpected deadlines must have been given re orders. Not blaming anyone, of course, especially the builders, they do their best anyway to get the basses ready.
P.S. I don't eat cornflakes.

Pretty much every instrument retailer I know is crying right now. Walls and showrooms are empty and many (even the big producers) are back-ordered so much that they're not even issuing ETA of new product.

Your perspective may be different based on where you live however, the biggest challenge currently is not at the manufacturers its the ocean freight. Container rates from China to North America 2 years ago were call it $1400 to West coast, today the similar rate is up $11800 for similar, I have been in supply chain since 1989 its brutal out there right now. Empty containers are short, and shipping into places like Saskatoon can be very challenging, I have several large accounts there and have been bringing their shipments to Vancouver, then de-stuffing here and sending on as Carriers want their ocean equipment back as soon as possible, and will not even accept bookings to areas such as Saskatoon. Also even once a container has shipped there is alot that can happen to cause further delays, yesterday I had a vessel dock and offload 7 of the 9 containers I had on it, then a covid case cropped up onboard, and they sent the vessel back out into harbour to quarantine for 2 weeks.

if you understand the situation as it seems the rest of us do then I fail to see the reason for your post.

You pop in to start your day and everyones day who follows this thread by stating your “sick and tired” of an uncontrollable situation.

then proceed to state your not even gonna give the bass a chance just because…..it’s late.
I’m not sure what kind of a response you expected?
Do you want a hug or a shoulder rub??? Hahaha. Maybe go for an ice cream?

I really hope when you do finally get it in your hands the wait was worth it for you….

Yeaouch!!! And to think Sea cams were so cheap and in abundance people decided it was a feasible option for building houses just 2 years ago

Apparently, I look at ordering custom basses slightly differently than a lot of other people. When I inquired about ordering my ABZs, I was quoted a lead time of 18 months. Initially, I thought that was excessive, but after some research and some math, I ordered 4 ABZs(a 4/3, two 5/3's, and a 6/3). My though process shifted from "Damn! I gotta wait 18 months for a bass!" to "I've got 17.5 more months to figure out how to pay for this! Sweeet!" Somewhere in the 9 or 10 month mark, I came to some semblance of common sense and canceled one of the 5/3s(Which became Jeff Johnson's ABI). So, pre-pandemic, I waited 19 months for the 5/3, 21 months for the 6/3, and(beginning of the pandemic) almost 24 months for the 4/3, even though I ordered them all at the same time.

Obviously, we're all aware of the difficulties that manufacturers and retailers are facing. Even with the best laid plans and trying to account for all the variables, nobody could foresee the entire world shutting down. Custom ordering an instrument or ordering a 1st run instrument really requires a seismic shift in your thinking. I'm now 5 months into a, supposed 6 month, wait for a couple of US Spectors and my thought process is still the same. I do NOT think "Man, this is gonna be an excruciating 6 months!", I think "Ok, I've got 6 months to figure out how to come up with $10k" Trust me, it makes the time go A LOT faster...;)! If I do order another Dingwall, Since I really would like to have a Z3 AND I'm only gonna order ONE(:D:laugh::roflmao:), I'll probably just try to find an order I can slide into.

Hey there!
If you want to call the store before you arrive with a list of any basses you'd like to try out, we can get them ready in advance to streamline the process! We look forward to seeing you :)

Thanks

My wife and I went to Florida a couple of months ago. Since we were in the Orlando area, a trip to Bass Central was on the itinerary. It was pouring rain, we didn't call before we showed up and my ears still hadn't fulled popped, so I was uncomfortable. The guys at Bass Central could not have been nicer to us! They grabbed every bass I wanted to try without any hesitation and even offered to get a cabinet I was thinking about trying OUT OF THE BOX for me to try. I politely declined, but I thought that was cool. I bought a couple of sets of strings, and GrassHopper gave me a Bass Central T-Shirt, which I wear whenever it's clean, LOL!

I appreciate the warm welcome and great customer service! I think you might've been there that day as well @NickBassCentral ? Thanks for a very good experience!

Bass Central is awesome. Every time I'm in or near Orlando I try to stop by. Tremendous selection and super helpful staff who are happy to answer questions or just leave you alone to try whatever catches your eye.

I like a bit of wait for just the reason you say. Sometimes when people baulk at the pricing, I do mention that it looks way more reasonable if it cuts across a couple calendar years! :D

This PJ is Alder, maple neck and wenge finger board with a FDV in the bridge (the price is alright considering everything is more expensive these days).

Here is a recent review from Dan Veall on an SPJ4 with the same woods and pickups as the one you're considering. Might not be much to go on as it's a lot of talking and Dan uses a super modern sound.

That’s how I planned my SP build. I drew a savings plan, placed the order ASAP in case prices go up and then I had plenty of time to save :hyper:

EXACTLY! That's the only way I can afford to play the gear I have, figure out what I want, see how long it's gonna take, figure out how much money I need to save each week/month, and determine if it's feasible. Not gonna kid anyone, these Spectors are really testing my limits...
