Hey, I'm looking at Dingwalls. I was a little shocked atr seeing $1.8 - $2.5k USD asking for Chinese Dingwalls. Is this what folks are really paying for these? Possible?

I am sick and tired waiting for my D-Roc Standard 5...it was supposed to be here in May but still no idea when I can put my hands on it. I’ve already played two gigs with my other basses when I was supposed to play D-Roc...and honestly, I am quite happy with my other basses so I might sell my first Dingwall even before it gets here because I just lost any interest to it during this half a year wait. Sad but that’s life...

Vintage burst.
The wait and the unknown ETA sucks. The first batch of basses are in the port of Vancouver. Our team is standing by to process them as soon as they arrive.
Wow! I really like this song

Thanks for some explanation as I'm new to this brand.~Some companies look for low cost manufacturing just to cut costs and sell cheap goods. Others look for manufacturing sources that can help them squeeze as much quality and performance into an instrument that's as affordable as possible.
Another way to look at it is you're paying for top notch maple, alder or swamp ash, electronics, gigbag, Canadian fretwork, setup and QC, plus tone and performance that would normally cost twice the price. Using a high-end factory in China plus the team in Canada is how we get all of the above while keeping the price down to $1.8 - $2.5K.
Preaching to the choir I know, but I'm dropping this here as yet another example of a Dingwall being used in a context almost antithetical to the "modern metal" one
In case this wasn't obvious to someone "new to this brand"... the "D." in Sheldon's user name stands for... ah... I'm sure you figured that out by now...Thanks for some explanation as I'm new to this brand.~

Looks tasty!!!
Sounds like my day job though… anything relating to my day job shouldn’t really be put in your mouth.![]()
Saw Dingwall posted a link to this video on FB earlier today. Tony Levin on an NG3! Very cool.
Here is a recent review from Dan Veall on an SPJ4 with the same woods and pickups as the one you're considering. Might not be much to go on as it's a lot of talking and Dan uses a super modern sound.
I tried to purchase this bass just prior to the Super P/J I ended up with. My bank would not allow the transaction thru the company for US to British currency conversion…..long story.

Love the song... but a video that shows the bassist 90+% of the time? That can't be real![]()

If you ended up with the awesome blue one in your avatar then your bank did you a favour IMHO
For future reference you can use 'Wise' (formerly transferwise) to buy stuff from bassdirect without having to deal with nonsense from your bank, if you have the cash on hand that is.
Thanks for the heads up actually. I use them and navyfed I'll remember this if I find myself in a similar situation. It was Transferwise from Bass Direct. Again, long story, but my bank first approved the transactions, then pulled it stating TransferWise is high risk. I’m in the military and bank with USAA FWIW. No credit issues, no credit card balance, very high credit score, etc. and they just would not “allow” me to use “my” credit card. Oh well, picked up the Sonic blue one from Bassbuddah.
