Dingwall Owners Club

Honestly, I've had issues receiving packages with every shipping company. It seems like the higher the value of a package, the more likely it is that things are going to be delayed, lost, delivered to the wrong address, or otherwise eff'd around with.

I have never had any issues with any of them when sending stuff, however....

While the company I work for isn't one of the big ones mentioned in the last several posts, we routinely have trailers sitting in big city terminals waiting to be unloaded (we shipped more pallets of freight than cartons of freight). A shortage of qualified CDL drivers***, forklift drivers, etc., plus the fact that nowadays it seems everyone seems to be shipping more stuff all adds up to delays of a few days or longer. And this doesn't even consider the overseas containers waiting to be offloaded at the ports.

When you add all this up, I'm rather amazed that the shipping industry is handling the challenges as well as it is. That in no way excuses some to the horror stories that have happened to some of us!

FWIW, I just received a 45-lb. cab shipped via UPS on time. (And yes I'm a happy camper!)

*** My company is so desperate for CDL drivers that they are offering new hires a bonus of $5-10,000.00 depending where they are in the country. So, if you know of any CDL drivers thinking of going to another company, send them my way. (Disclosure: my referral bonus will go towards another Dingwall purchase!) :)

I haven't ordered tons of instruments, but my SP5 was coming via FedEx from Florida. It was on a Friday before a long holiday weekend and I called and actually went to airport to intercept it. I got there maybe 15 minutes before closing time and I got the feeling that nobody really felt like looking for it or digging it out, so they told me I would have to go to the distribution centre the next day. I did that and they CHARGED me $50 the "privilege" of taking off of their hands before being sent out for delivery.

I have had people drop off packages at the front door and not even knock or ring, which seems to be the standard now. These days, they are usually contracted couriers.

Noticed a key in the door. You lock yourself in the woodshed when practicing? That's commitment! :woot::bassist:

I'm not sure I'd get any work done either if I had that fine-looking Dingwall specimen begging to be played!

No telling where that door leads too :lock:

@SemiDriven - I understand why things are difficult now, but this is over the last decade. They all suck ass. I’m sure working in shipping sucks as much ass as every other service kind of job, but how would the delivery drivers feel if someone just threw their food into a takeout box like a chimp at the zoo throwing poop? That’s honestly how some drivers seem to treat packages. I sympathize for bad working conditions, but don’t take it out on the consumer, take it out on the big boss that’s sitting at the top.

You are correct...to a point.

1. It doesn't matter what career field you work in. There is always some who have "suck ass" attitudes.

2. Working in the transportation industry is a privilege just as working at any job is a privilege (or for that matter, being a business owner). There are some service industry workers, however, who think the universe resolves around them. As such, they remind everyone in their sphere of influence that they are the center of the universe. Consequently, serving their employer, their customers, and their freight is secondary or even tertiary (or non-existent) as far as priorities go.

3. Personally, I'd like to drop-kick some of my fellow drivers who don't give a rat's ass about their profession, their customers, and their freight they deliver. It makes everyone look bad.

4. The big boss MUST pay attention to the bottom line. They get the big bucks (in any profession) to deal with the BIG HEADACHES which occur in any business or charitable entity. And a lot of their headaches revolve around people and why people do (or don't do) the things expected of them. And as you allude to, IT"S WORSE NOW since every business is looking for workers. In my industry, management is somewhat "relaxing" their work standards so that they don't lose drivers to the competition. That's crazy...and that's how challenging it's become to work in the transportation field.

@TheEmptyCell, I get it. Like you (like many of us) I been on the receiving end of BDPD (Brain Dead Package Delivery). I'm keenly disappointed in poor customer service in any industry.

FWIW, when I do have a pleasant experience receiving packages (and I'm there in person to receive the package), I make sure to sincerely thank the driver. Praise goes a long ways!

I got on an AlNico kick a few years ago and put Nordstrands in my SP and SJ/P because Dingwall didn't have FDV's in P-form. I really dig them, so soon after I snagged my beautiful beast of an NG-2, I installed FDV's in it. I play it with the neck pickup soled. It's a wicked good precision tone with serious attitude. The main reason I went 3X on my new Afterburner build is to have a pickup in that extremely sweet middle position.

Canada post: our post lady NEVER attempts delivery of any package to our door. Paid for the delivery? Nope. Slip in the communitiy mailbox at the end of the street for attempted delivery. I am sure she does not even bother to load them in her vehicle.

my wife complained once as at the time she was at home with a newborn not working. “How could it be a failed delivery of i was home all day?” For a month we got deliveries as expected… but not longer.

ups: my dingwall was to arrive friday. “Attempted delivery” note on the door with 4 people in the house. Gad to wait till monday to get it.

other than that shipping has been ok… except a loopi pedal from austrailia. Took 1.5 months to arrive.

Managed to pick this up today after all. FDVs are a little different sounding than my other Dingwalls but in a good way. Looking forward to taking it out to jam on Sunday.

just a word on CP. if there is any monies owing they cannot deliver the package to you, even if you are standing there right beside them now…..

“The drivers do not have the safety protocol in place to accept money since COVID like they do at the service counters”

meaning, as they are perfectly capable humans to actually complete that task, their company protocol now officially will not let them so regardless expect to have to go pick up up and pay customs in person.
That said, if no moneyed are due and you get the same result, they are just crappy humans doing a crappy job… at their job.

I'll just go pick it up tomorrow, to be fair it left John Fox on Wednesday so having it drive by my house today is not too bad time wise haha
Sad that FedEx seems to continue getting these shipments. They bork the last mile, forcing you to drive across the city to their warehouse. Love it when they report “customer not available” and I’m standing at the door waiting…

Yes he did. He’s a bad person. He graciously let me try out his ABZ, SJ/P and SP which led me to buy a SJ, NG3, Z3 and SP (to be delivered in the next couple of weeks). Waltsdog is an enabler. I would suggest you unfollow him if you value your bank account!

Yes I certainly did, was waiting over 2 years on that one. I managed to snag a spot from John Fox last Sept for this one, they just happened to arrive pretty close together.
