On a SPJ I’d go for the FDV.
Edit. I had the FDV and swapped it out for the P-tone and I liked that even better.

Edit. I had the FDV and swapped it out for the P-tone and I liked that even better.
I was thinking earlier today that the FDV might be the one for the sound I want in this one. I haven’t heard any Dingwall pickups lately except for SF2s in both of my Basses.

I edited my post to say that the P-tone was even better in the bridge position.
I swapped my FDV for a P-Tone in the bridge too. I have to admit, I am still very curious about the SF2 (Super Fatty 2) as my older SJ5 has one of the slimmer SF1's in the bridge and it sounds better, albeit the pickups are not in the same locations (P is closer to the neck and J in the 70's position).
Where do you guys buy all your pickups at? The place I found with the best selection is in the UK:

I've purchased (a P-tone) directly from Dingwall, but it's been a few years...
Johnfoxbass can get you any pick up you like I betcha.
Hmm...My ABZ5 has a P-tone in the neck and a FD-3 4L in the bridge. And I like it.
Ya got me thinking though -- what would happen if I reversed that combo?
Thoughts?
Is that a person on here? Just curious. I can't leave anything alone and I'm sure I'll be trying a pickup swap somewhere down the road.

This might be sacrilege, but I'm leaning towards dropping some Kent Armstrong pickups with 3 way switching and a blend knob into the ABZ when it comes.
That's what I have going on in my Muckelroy and it's amazing. 4 way switching doesn't make a ton of sense to me with a two pickup set up.
The ABZ is passive with the older square pickups.

I don't consider pickups swaps sacrilege. I have custom Nordstrands in two of mine.
My Muckelroy's set up is perfect.
Volume, blend, tone.
Parallel, single coil, series switching for each.

(2+ months, no strings, no nothing' - no advice sought, just updating in case anyone else was curious)
