Dingwall Owners Club

And here is yet another (my AB proto), with a purpleheart board, no less!

Hey everyone! I've finally released my in depth video on my heavily modified Dingwall NG3! Featuring a John East MMSR 3-knob preamp (bass/treb stack and mid/midfreq), East/ACG passive tone control add-on module, full copper shielding job in the pickup and control cavities, and a Fret-Nation 6 way custom rotary switch. This bass absolutely DOES IT ALL!

Here's a very simplistic diagram of what I did:

I didn't watch it... not really interested in John East pres (have had them before, and, I feel like they'd be a downgrade).

It did, however, remind me that I need to get back into things and get my filter preamp (one to start, two down the line) into my new Z though. I gotta get some time to make some recordings so I can A/B/C the three setups well. I've honestly just been so happy with it as-is that I haven't felt the desire to change it up too much yet! But I will, soon!

@Selta what type of filter pre do you have again? I thought it was an ACG/East?
Yeah, ACG EQ-02's (two of them, one for neck pickup, one for rear). As far as I know, Alan designs them then outsourced the build to East (may be wrong about that, never cared enough to dig deep into it). Every "normal" East pre I've tried has really left me wanting a lot more, especially for how expensive they were (~50% more than Glockenklangs, IIRC -- been a couple of years though). Hoping these ACGs play out alright as there's not really any other similar filter pre readily available for affordable pricing.

Edit to clarify:
Not replacing my Glocks because I suddenly don't like them (still very much think they are the best mass production preamp on the market by a long shot). Mostly curious how well it'll all work together and what the end product will be. As far as I know only one other person has done a filter pre in a Dingwall, and I never did find any recordings of it :)

I had an East pre in a Kinal MK-21. Didn't bond with either. After a two-year stint with a DGTC in an NG-2, I'm back to all Glocks. I had to roll back bass on the NG to make it 'work' for me. My new AB is the same wood combo, maple/maple/alder, but with the three-band Glock. I get just what I want to hear without moving a knob...

I've always been a passive guy. When I had a NG3, I had to roll back both mid knobs a good deal to get it where I liked it.
The DG pre is interesting, but hooooo boy does it add a ton of color no matter what you do. If you like what it brings, that's a great thing though!
I can't quite bring myself to play passive only. Probably more showing my lack of skill or subtly here, but there's just sometimes in some song sections where I really want things to go off in another direction, and giving a knob or two a twist to get there works for me :)

My current #1 bass is a Muckelroy. Passive with Kent Armstrong duel coils with 3 way switching.

That gives me all the EQ I need.
