Dingwall Owners Club

I've always been a passive guy. When I had a NG3, I had to roll back both mid knobs a good deal to get it where I liked it.

Me too
After many years of playing active basses exclusively throughout the 80's to 00's I now love the simplicity ( and for me personally a much "woodier" tone ) of a passive.
Now all of my basses are passive.

More goofing off.. yes, I'm well aware the knobs don't match - this was just an experiment to see if I could do it and we have success. I used a 500k/500k stacked pot and a .047 cap for vol/passive tone. I might try a 500k/250k just to see if it gets a little darker.. this was fun, I'm glad it worked, lol.

This is what I was originally going to do with mine before gutting it and doing the East MMSR + ACG Passive tone control + 6 way rotary.

Oh I know, lol.. I read your post and saw one other NG that had it done. I really like the VTC on my Sadowsky basses - I'm getting a similar effect rolling off the passive tone and a cutting a little hi mid from the DGTC.

I'd be a separate knob, but Nordstrand sells a push/pull with two different tone caps. Cool idea to either wire up, or buy from them.

That does sound cool! But yeah, that was my only thing was not wanting to add another hole in case i want to put it back stock. I do have another push/pull I can use for active passive, I thought about repurposing the switch hole for a passive tone knob. The original volume pots have a pretty narrow shaft, that may fit with minimal reaming.

Adding the passive tone made a really nice difference at my reggae gig tonight. Pretty happy about that. Took just enough edge off the DGTC, accomplished what I wanted to achieve. I'm gonna try a 500k/500k just to hear the difference. Can't hurt, lol...

EDIT: the bass currently has the 500k/250k, hence the Fender J Bass dual knob. I was incorrect in my previous post, I ordered both pots at once and typed the wrong one earlier - I was just excited it worked. I can't go back and edit the OG post.

Has anyone changed the nut on their D-Roc standard? I'm getting ready to string mine AGCF and bought a spare nut from Fret Nation so I can go back to stock, but damn the stock nut is glued in there. I'm reluctant to take a hammer to my new baby, but it seems like there is a lot of glue holding the nut in. I've tried to scrape of the edges where the nut sinks into the slot in the fretboard, but it aint budging.

This kind of surprises me. I didn’t think dingwall used any of just a drop of glue on the nuts.

do you have a small tech flathead screw driver that you can slide in under the side of the nut. I don’t believe I’d be looking to take a hammer to a nut extraction

Moby Makeover continued..

Got the SF2's just installed. @AB Nate - you were on point, these sound KILLER in the AB2. Thick, fat.. so nice.. They sound great in passive too!! I installed a Bourns push-pull for active/passive, it was just too tight for the CTS p/p. Still waiting on new series/parallel toggles so I just bypassed those. Once it's all done I'll take a few cavity shots so you can see how I crammed everything in there without a separate battery compartment.

I feel bad for the last couple of owners of this bass. It wasn't wired correctly by any means, they never got to experience the full awesomeness of it. It sounds incredible.

me, I’d have it refinished to Candy Tangerine.

Fortunately, there's a local guy that painted for PRS for a long time. Currently paints for Kevin Brubaker. He's done work for me before.

He painted a parts bass satin neon blue for me. I'm tempted to do the same with this.

I need to fix the set up first. See how much I bond with it.

Unfortunate it wasn’t disclosed as not a great finish.
On the other Hand Brubaker has some Killer finishes
