Hi Sheldon,
This one is equipped with the Glockenklang preamp. Jeff asked me if I had a hybrid treble circuit and I wasn't sure what he was talking about. Thank you for making that clear to me. After disconnecting and removing the batteries, they both checked in at 8.8 volts. I'm going to check my mail when I get home to see what else Jeff has to say. Thanks for chiming in and educating me a bit more!

As I replied to Jeff after he (tactfully!) asked me to try using the treble control in passive mode and see what happens, I have officially awarded myself a Homer Simpson "DOH!" award for temporary idiocy. The treble control. What a sensible idea. I also suspect that I didn't have the input pad on my Walkabout set to passive either, compounding the false 'problem'. My only excuses are that I was tired the first time and apparently not awake enough the second. :rollno: The good parts - 1) no drool was emitted during my spells, 2) the spells were temporary, 3) I learned a bit more about Dingwall electronics, and 4) I don't have to 'operate' on old reliable. :)

It's embarrassing to be so brainless at times, but I wanted to share what I learned. After all of this, I rummaged around and managed to locate the instruction booklet. Right there in the description of the treble tone knob between "+/- 18db @ 18khz" and "Center Detent Flat", is says "Passive Cut". Not very obvious, but it's there... :hiding:

If this is the most embarrassing thing you've done this week, you are doing far better than I am.

No big deal in the scope of the life. It's not you jumped on here tearing in to the bass. You just addressed a perceived problem. And you found a solution. Ta Da !

I saw a Stambaugh posted yesterday that had so many knobs and switches on it that I asked the owner how many hours of flight school before he gets certified.

As I get older, I am starting to see the allure of guys that wire in volume and kill everything else. By God, I am capable of twisting on a volume knob ! Any more than that for me and things get sketchy.

Thank you for the gentle reassurance, gentlemen. A special thanks to Zoomie for not ribbing me about my failure to consult the instructions first. ;) I have a similar minimalist philosophy toward the number of controls - only as many as are truly necessary. The active/passive Super J's deliver a lot with those four knobs!

There are times to rib and this wasnt one of them.

And I agree. I didnt intentionally avoid active electronics for either. I started with passive and I am getting all of the tone I could ask for. No need.

Just dont ask me if I am interested in converting my Super J to a Super JP.

I'm sure you did! The excellent tone and slanty frets are both proven conversation starters. :cool: Have you gone down the Payson string road? I don't recall - are you doing corporate gigs?

Wooo, that was fun. Got to rip on my basses for the first time in a few weeks. The Aguilar head pairs very well with the P sounds of both basses. Good decision by me. I was trying to sell the ABZ for extra funds, but decided to sell other stuff off instead. It's too much fun to play. Putting the Dtuner on it and then being able to switch between E and D was a big plus. Being able to flip a lever and play in DADG is such a useful trick. Definitely opened up some fun lines.
