Congrats! Choosing a finish can be the hardest part. ;) Nothing better than a classic finish on a classy Dingwall. I see a long love affair developing in the near future... :D

It can't be, and Sheldon might correct me if I am wrong.

My Super J / P 5 strings was the first Sheldon ever made, in fact he told me that after I placed my order he had to build a mould for the pickup shell because he had not yet made any, and he sent me the pic of the mould after it was jigged. (see pic below)

So assuming my Super J/P was finished on Feb 2011 it is safe to say that the white one in the above pic could only be from that same era or after or... if it is an earlier model then the owner must have retrofitted the new P style pickup and scratchplate after 2011.

Well riddle me this JP hounds. Can either of you comment on running the JP passive? Or do you always run active?

When I ordered my Super P5 in May, I was informed that the paint formula/selection had changed from olympic white to an antique white. I believe that the 2013 price list shows antique white although I am unable to verify as it is on my desk at work. Bottom line, 'Dingwall' did change their whiet sometime after 2011 and prior to release of the 2013 price list.

To be clear, I am not complaining. I haven't seen the new shade and am confident that it will be great. To date I have seen one and only one Dingwall bass that I found to be aesthetically unappealing. And even it was was ok.

In my case and this can differ from other j/p'ers, as much as I like to experiment with the Glockenklang I mostly leave it out of the equation and stay passive 99.9% of the time, my simple reason for this is that I am too fond of the passive tone control which I tend to run it in the very low numbers if not completely off, which sadly it's a feature that the Glockie won't provide. :(

Interesting. So by off, you kill all highs ?

I am a huge fan of passive controls. I have found no need to consider going active as my big boy bass rig and smaller rig, both give me stellar tone and definition.

My concern was the potential for balance problems to arise with JP set up, forcing the need to go active.

Yes but, and this is a big BUT, these Dingwall pickups are in a totally different league even when you do kill all the highs or most of them you still have a pretty defined treble sound that it doesn't get muffled or overly dark, Zoomie you've had your Super J for a while now, I thought by now you'd have exerienced that effect.

And let me assure you I'm in this game cause I play the bottom end and a great frigging booming one at that! :D I don't play no widdly widdly electric guitar, do I? I don't tap at the end of the fretboards and neither do I slap on a piccolo bass like Brian Bromberg, cause I's a bass playa! Haha

Oh I completely understand. My Pre is so tasty sounding that I set it and forget it. I then roll tone up or down on both the Super J5 and NAV P, depending on song requirements. I don't ever recall running the SJ5 completely off, but it regularly gets turned down to 30 percent.

An don't preach to me about bass thunder! I play pants-flapping 15's! ;)
