Apologies in advance if this has been previously discussed, but I don't follow the thread closely. Has anyone tried stringing a five string NG/Combustion (or any of the other models with 37"-34" spread) E to C (or drop D)? I want to give it a try because I'm finding myself leaning towards the higher registers. I usually use Payson strings so I'm thinking I'll try the smallest five strings of their medium/light six string set (.100T .078T .058 .044 .032). I'm thinking this might be a tad tighter tension than I'm used to. Does anyone have experience/thoughts to share about this?

I know Ayumu (Japanese bassist, can find him on YT and Instagram) has an AB1 and a Combustion strung E-C, and it seems to work out well for him.
Really old pickups too. Also from the ad “3 new sets of Dingwall Custom Voodoo strings”.
I’m pretty sure that ad is way way out of date
Those are the newer pickups aren't they? Rounded edges?

No they are square end ones that have been discontinued for a while now. The current ones are totally round ends.

Oh yes they are, my mistake. I could not get that picture to load and was working from the tiny one.
Either way an X-top is a lot more than $750 and has been for a while. I’d guess that bass was maybe 2017ish

they are rounded but that walnut neck is also dated. Mine was 2010 ish with rounded shells. I can’t make out if it’s large writing or small writing in the corner of the shells
Short story. Every now and then I go thru these phases where I feel I want a 4 string in the family for playing the stuff I don’t normally play or some other reason I use to justify buying a bass. Well I’m back at the point where I feel terrible holding on to this bass and not giving it the love it deserves. I pick it up and I feel awkward with only 4 strings.
I’m gonna post it in all the usual places by this coming weekend. Makes me sad.
I want to keep it as a piece of my collection but the reality is I’m not a collector of art that doesn’t get function in my world. I can’t afford to have it linger with no purpose.

Pretty sure that is older than 1 year, just because of the walnut neck. If it was current, that is so tempting at that price, but then I tell myself, "That is exactly what I am playing now, but my pickups are square ended."
I like that modern aggressive tone from them and that’s exactly what I’d use it for
