Thanks guys for the updates on bill guys. I recall him talking about his acreage life and it sounded like they were ramping up the home projects. I’ve closed and opened a few chapters of life thus far and feel there is more change a comin soon too.

It's funny - you and I hear those pickups as opposite. For me the FDVs are cleaner and more balanced. The FD3s sound hotter, more compressed with more mids.
That upright has some serious mojo! Nice one!

Is there a way how to recognise FD Vs FDV from the outside, without disassembly? Thanks!
I think your description is similar to mine in some regard except the mids. I think the FD3s do a better “scoop” but perhaps the heat is just the boosted low end of the FD3 and the clean of the FD3 is the tighter more focused sound vs the fact the FDVs seem more even and open across the spectrum. Maybe I’m not describing it right but I’ve definitely got a tighter more Hifi sound now with the FD3s in place. That said, the FDVs in the fretless has turned out to be fantastic!!
The current FD3s and all pups have the small writing identifiers on them now in the same fashion.
it depends on the year of the pick ups.
The best way to know on those is to pop them and look at the back. They are probably FD3 but could be something else. My bet is FD3
The new band I'm in is covering a wider spectrum of songs than my previous bands so I'm finding new ( and very cool ) tones on my D-roc 5.
Heavy rock stuff is easy ( bridge & middle, tone 100% open, mild drive and a pick ) but I've found my sound for the "Police" stuff we are doing.
( Middle pickup solo, 25% tone & fingerstyle ). Lovely.
