Hey guys question, I told a buddy I’d help him record some tracks cause their bass player is for some reason afraid to record.
Thing is my DRoc is tuned to standard E tuning. I’ve gone to Drop D and even C# with no issues. His music is in B. What would you guys recommend for this tuning ? Thicker gauge strings ? (I use standard 45-105) and if I go heavier for this project would I need to get a new nut to adjust to that string ?

A couple options-

1. Use heavier strings and possibly file the nut depending on how much bigger you want to go
2. Downtune with whatever the biggest string you can use now is, and play with a light touch. IMO having the strings really loose is okay in some applications and styles of music. I wouldn't go that route if the music is fast and tight though.
3. Borrow a 5 string or BEAD 4 string bass from someone else (their bassist?)
4. Use a digital drop tuner pedal

Lol I’m a 4 string guy, and I’m just helping him for this project.

I’d just try restringing with a BEAD set and if new nut is required grab a nut for that tuning. Then you can just swap back and forth with a bit of set up. Most cost effective option for sure

I'll be joining the club soon. Got myself a used ABI 5 that will be arriving next week. Looking forward to the next rehearsals with it. I've been able to play some at trade shows and retail shops but never in a room with a band.

I would try it as is to see how well it works in a pinch.
Otherwise it may be time to get another nut. Should be pretty low cost, cheaper than buying another bass.

Then again, it would be an excuse reason to get another bass....

If it’s anything like mine, you’ll most likely love it. My AB1 5 is the lightest bass I own, has perfect balance, a thin awesome neck, and an awesome B string.

For ab1 models imho the only way to go is solid due to the cutaway.

yeah i plan to become youtube famous snd quit my dayjob. Mr beast makes over 50 million a year at age 24… i need to get some followers… and become younger. And do lots of reaction videos.
