@Sheldon D. If you ever make an active set of humbuckers for the 6 strings put me down for a set #1!! 
This is great content and leaves a lot more on the table from the line of EMG pick ups. I opted for 2 x 40 DCX to keep with that cleaner tone more like a bongo I guess
I do have a PX sitting in the drawer though if I opt to give it a go. I love their wiring kits as well!
The only one of my instruments that may undergo a heart transplant (pickup swap) would be my SJ-5. My ears really like Nordstrand pickups and I may see about fitting some Big Singles or Splits in it. The Super Fatties have the most bass content of Dingwall's pickups according to Sheldon. It would be interesting to hear a more open tone spectrum from the SJ...
I’d say the SFs and SF2 are a warmer sounding pick up compared to the rest and as mentioned in that vid above getting some alnicos would give you that stronger mid presence.
1 passive EMG pick up I’ve heard great things about is the Geezer P. Maybe I’ll toss one in the old MIM one day. Probably the only way I’ll ever have a bass compatible for it.
Yeah, I like strong mids. I really like what the AlNico V NP-4a pickups did for my SP and SJ/P. I keep using the same descriptor - more "open". "Clear" would also apply. I suck at trying to describe tone, but to quote Genesis, "I know what I like, and I like what I know"...

that was one of the things that won me over was how focused and clear the dingwall came thru.(FD3s in that instance).
Having gotten so familiar with it I feel much more comfortable exploring alternates these days knowing that I have a safety net so to speak. 1 thing that used to drive me nuts was having a tone that was bottom boomy(to the point of break up) and top clacky with no real definition prior to having Dingwall in my life. Of course part of that was not knowing how to harness the rest of my inferior gear at the time.
For the last couple years I’ve been on a P kick loving the sound and getting some vintagy type tones but as I’ve gotten back into band settings with some busier riffs I’ve scaled back to a more clean defined and “quick” tone….now I feel like I was putting something down that hopefully was able to be picked up!!! Hehe
Mine as well, my favorite nords are big rigs and big splits.

Those Big Rigs are amazing, for sure, and I also love the Big Splits.
Hi fellow Dingwallian’s! Joined the club a year ago with my honey burst SJ. Liked it so much I ordered a custom build LPB alder/wenge passive SJ…and it smokes. These instruments are amazing for so many reasons! So….I’m selling my honey burst…don’t need two thoroughbred’s.

I think i heard your new SJ on John Fox’s YT channel. It sounds awesome!
Noth’n like the smell of my new DingWall in the morning! FWIW the honey burst is on there too from a few years ago. Only way I could do sound clips is on my phone which IMO would not capture the thick, rich, supah fawnky tonal bliss of my new SJ.
That honeyburst over flamed maple is just so good. I will definitely be getting a fretless 5 string like it someday.
My new NG3-5 has made it to the US.
I should have it in my eager hands Monday.

Recorded my first Drop A metal track with the NG3 yesterday.. M+B setting just crushed for that style. Of course you metal guys know that, lol.. I rewire my NG3's with the middle pickup in series as well, it's a little beefier/bigger/louder than the current stock wiring. That combined with Post EQ out on my WD800 made me feel like I knew what I was doing.. 
I'll try and post a clip from the demo if it's cool with the guy.
I grew up on metal, just haven't played it in a live band format in at least 15 years. Old dog, new tricks, lol.. You should've seen how excited I was to discover what I could do with a 2mm pick!
EDIT- want to add to that, the Payson NS strings are killer. Work great for the lower tunings. I just set up another NG with ACGCF and the Payson's are perfect.

For that track I used his .145 for the A with the top 4 from the Dingwall set, because its what I had here and needed to get this done... not sure if I absolutely need the .145 or not though. Its quite the contrast in tone compared to the other 4 strings. I might be able to get by with a .130. That said, a .135 would probably be the perfect balance for of tension/brightness for what I'm after. I then turned this bass into the ACGCF bass because the nut was already modded for the .145.
For the ACGCF tuning im using his .145 + Drop C set. They feel and sound great, just wondering about string life. I just setup the new green NG into Drop A tuning using the stock DW strings. If the .130 doesnt fly too well for low A, I'll probably migrate over to the Payson Drop A 5-string set in the future.
