This. They really need to bring back these finishes.
I know on paper that would be the "proper" way to go but I'd like to avoid using bridge cable gauges. The NG3 I'm currently using it as my drop G bass and it's great and is almost there for drop E. Just needs a little more tension.
@rulefuzz I love Spiritbox, great video! That is a monster low string and it sounds good but I'd like to keep it under that size. (I've never liked super thick strings)
I saw your other video for Rotoscope, what do you think about the 130 for F# on your 4 string for how you play?
I hear that. I’ve ordered up a couple of .145s(SS and NS) from Payson to see how I can cope with a string of that gauge. I couldn’t imagine implementing the .170 myself.
I tried the .170 on the Droc and it felt like plucking a bic pen lol

Begging for a blocked 5-string Payson Bridge for my old school combustion...anyone with a spared one please?
Was there a cease and decist on the Payson bridges or a gentleman's agreement to stop selling them? Or just cost prohibitive? It seems like there is demand but it is fairly niche.
I do not have any insider info on why the Payson bridge is no longer available. If I had to guess, there was a gentleman's agreement to cease and desist. Had I known they were going to be ultimately discontinued, I would have bought out the rest of the stock, period.
I have a black one on my NG, and I bought the very last available chrome 5 string for a future personal build. Even though Chrome ain't my color.
I cannot blame Sheldon and crew for pumping the brakes on what ultimately was their intellectual property. It's just a shame there isn't a better option than the uni bridges. If I were ordering a brand new NG, I would happily pay an upcharge to get the AB bridge, but I understand wanting to keep costs down on the Combustion.
I believe I have the last set of black monorails from him, would’ve liked to get the single piece style but was too late.
Pretty freakin' sweet to see my custom bass being showcased in a video on Dingwall's socials! Now have to wait for it to eventually arrive here...

Here's what I got out of the .130 with a standard scale model, I can't wait to see how my NG3 fares in D#! And yes, this was recorded while filming
I've got my laptop running Parallax behind me. I might need to revisit ATLAS with my NG3 once we get snow on the ground again..

Here's mine in ACGCF with a Payson Drop C set (.125T-.50).. feels like I'm behind the wheel of a monster truck. Just beastly.
I have an NG 5 string set up with a .210 gauge for double drop D. The hardest thing is muting that big of a string effectively after you've been hammering on it. Tension is nicely matched with the rest of the set. I've been tempted to experiment with lighter gauges for some more harmonic content, but with distortion and a decent compressor to even things out it comes through ok.
