Hey Dingwall fam, are there any owners in here who can shed light on the communication during the build process? I ordered a bass in Feb 2021, but I haven't heard anything and my lead time has come and gone (I figure it's been a supply issue), but is it typical to hear nothing until the bass is ready to ship?

I've reached out to Dingwall already and they keep saying they'll get back to me with more info but they never do. Should I be concerned?

Best to go through your dealer, rather than contacting Dingwall directly.

Also, they’re behind a bit, for various logistical reasons, but they are working hard to get back on track. My Z3 was originally an August slot, but as I mentioned last page, it is about to be painted right now. FTR, communication about some small, unavoidable mineral streaking and what my dealer and I wanted to do about it went through the dealer, there was no direct communication to me. Which is as it should be, since that’s the way being a dealer and getting a build slot works.

Same boat. I’m sitting at 4 months past the estimated due date with no word yet. Was told it would be in my hands around May/June this year. But I’m fine with my NG, it is a beast, so figure they’ll finish when they finish. They’re super busy and the pandemic didn’t help.

Good to know I'm not the only one. It's been a long wait, but if others are in the same boat, then at least I know I'm not getting the runaround.

Mine took a few months longer than the expected date..l know there were some COVID issues that caused the delay but I just hung in there and it came… happy with results.

I agree with contacting your dealer with any questions. They won’t necessarily know everything but that is their responsibility to be the communicator with Dingwall.

Thanks all. It appears I'll have to bug my dealer again. The only reason I reached out to Dingwall was because they were also not getting back to me, which means I gotta get to the bottom of it.

JFB has been absolutely outstanding on keeping me in the loop and quickly getting communication from Dingwall to me, so I can make decisions, and getting those decisions back to Dingwall. A superb dealer.

The ABII-6 that I ordered in December 2020 was ready in about 18 months. Due to a miscommunication on my dealer's part, a rebuild is under way, but the final version should be ready soon. (The initial build, which was such a beautiful bass that it's in the ABII gallery and went to the September Guitar Summit, was to be sold.) Peter is incredibly busy, so I don't bug him (or the dealer for that matter)--it will be ready when it's ready.

Peter, FTR, is moving on from Dingwall. They recently posted about it on social media. Having dealt with him, I know he’s going to do great where he’s going. Fortunately, it sounds like Dingwall have a pair of folks who will step in and continue doing great work in his place.

Yeah, I do believe staffing has been a logistical struggle through the pandemic

I imagine the workforce pool for the specialized team required is limited in Saskatoon and it can’t be easy to convince folks to move there.

I have,

at one time thought about moving there. Just couldn’t do it. Its too far of a stretch from the things I love here despite the affordability, which I think is now not even a bonus to living there. For a musician it is a very limiting location unfortunately

I love where I live… just wish the music scene was better here

I received a brand new Canadian bass yesterday and learned a couple things about the build process.

Every time I came to a decision about an aspect of the specs, I’d email my dealer and get him to update the spec sheet. That’s a waste of everyone’s time. Dingwall should request “final confirmation” of the build sheet from your dealer just before starting your build. You and your dealer don’t need to send them multiple revisions of build sheets prior to that. It‘s best just to keep your own ever changing copy and keep it to yourself until that time. I was coached to do so halfway through the wait.

I’m not sure, but the fact that I had multiple revision may have been partly why I didn’t get the request for “final confirmation” before a friend that’s well known on this forum noticed my build being buffed in a video on instagram. After my dealer was in contact with the shop, they made the small last minute hardware changes I wanted to the build sheet.

Everything worked out perfectly, with Dingwall building me, and John Fox Bass sending me, the best bass in the world. Fantastic companies to deal with despite all the craziness nowadays. This is my 4th Dingwall, but I haven't bought a new Dingwall before, and I can’t imagine it could go any better than it did with JFB. But, that’s a rant for another day.

John is a great guy. I wish I had ordered my bass through him. Even just asking him simple questions about some of the gear he has for sale gets you very thorough answers. Also, the fact that he orders basses far out really cuts down on lead times, which is super duper awesome.

I mean that's nice and all, but your bass does not actually exist. Not until you post pics of it. I don't make the rules.
