That’s Dingwall’s site for selling strings and swag. I’ve ordered strap locks, a strap, backpack, and I’m probably going to order some Christmas tree ornaments along with strings, shortly.
Dingwalls don't utilize active pickups. AFIIK, the biggest difference is finish. Afterburners have a high gloss clear coat, ABZ's have a thinner finish.
Dingwall does not make active pick ups. They are all passive but can be paired with an active pre amp.
ABZ= lightweight ash body, satin finish
AB1= alder body, gloss finish
AB2= walnut chambered body, gloss finish.
The rest of the specs are quite discretionary…. Including the specs I’ve listed above but those are fundamental spec differences pre customization.

A few weeks ago I posted about switching my emg pickups for the darkglass pre. Turns out just switching from nickel to stainless steel strings fixed my issue. Anyways, have a good weekend folks

The site looks awesome, but I didn’t see the side by side spec comparison page. Putting the setup series of videos right up front was a great idea. So many beautiful basses! The paint and finish guys are killing it.
The online store looks to be much improved. I’d like to see a simple, 100% cotton, logo Tshirt in colors other than black. And switches. I’d also like to see the swag merch stuff and strings be available through dealers in the US and EU, and other locations. The shipping from Canada is expensive.
If my powerball ticket comes through……I’ll be buying build slots from John Fox.

Finally did it today; when I bought my NG3 in 2018 it shipped with a D-Roc switch and I was always curious what the 3X would sound like. I never used the "All three pickups at once" setting, and always wanted to know what the bridge and neck would sound like together, and felt like the solo middle pickup wasn't exactly what I wanted. Long story short, I picked up the 3X switch and replaced the D-Roc this afternoon and while it's different than I expected, I like it. The bridge and neck isn't at all like what I expected it to sound, and I absolutely love the sound of the neck solo. The bridge and neck is way hotter than i expected. When using the D-Roc, i wound up using it in Passive mode quite a bit, but i love the sound of the active more with this switch (which doesn't make a lot of sense but... here we are.)
The comparison page is still active - I just don’t think there’s a link to it on the new site. Dingwall-related Google searches also deliver links to the forum, which seems to no longer exist. I remember that it got real spammy at one point.

Honestly, I’m surprised JFB only has 41 google reviews for the 3+ years he’s being in business. Of course they’re all 5 star, how could they not be, but I thought there’d be more. I bet it’s because he’s mostly an online shop. I usually only think of doing a google review when I had to use google to find the business/restaurant or use google to help decide between a couple different establishments, so maybe it’s not that surprising. Anyway, I felt I owed him a google review for the joy he’s brought to my life, if he’s brought you joy, maybe you should as well?We should call this club the the JFB dingwall owners club!!!

I’m beyond flattered that he’s ordering 2 more just like it, as noted at the bottom of the page. And here I thought vintage bursts were out of style. He must be ordering them for old folks like me. Based on a chat I had with him, I believe that part of the reason he’s ordering more of these is that he’s trying to recreate the secret sauce that makes this bass play and sound so good.

Incidentally, I was lucky to get the black clover tuners. I expect there won’t be any other Dingwalls that come from the factory with them. Allparts still has them, though.

I expect the older siblings, however, be moving on soon. The new one has been eating up all my spare time in the last 3 days since it’s arrived, and the others are getting undeservedly neglected.
Oh, and just in case anyone would like to hear it, here’s the man, JFB himself, taking it for a spin just before shipping, as requested:
Low adhesive tape to prevent swirl? When we talked about him playing it (surprisingly to me, he wouldn’t even think of doing so without explicit permission) and making a video, there was no request to protect it with tape. Just the kind of measures that are second nature to him.

So.... funny story. Something felt off about the sound it after I wired it. It sounded great, but as I previous stated the bridge and neck together didn't sound right. Well, that's because I'd accidentally flipped the red neck and bridge wires. Oops! Fixed it and now the bridge and neck sounds amazing, exactly what I was missing. Curiously, what I had thought was the bridge and middle together was actually the bridge and neck, and that was also an amazing tone. LOL.
