Posted on Instagram four hours ago. Yeah, this is getting to looking at wood grain on overenlarged pics a bit too obsessively…but I think this is mine.

And 14 hours ago, they posted video on their Instagram timeline of the artist working on it, laying down the masking line and doing some of the sides and rear. More close peering at moving images has me more convinced that this is mine.

Dingwall sales was able to help me out on mine. They said the records they had originally weren't the best, but Billy stated mine shipped November of 2009 based on the serial number.

We did make pickups for parallel fret basses for a few years as well as ghost built pickups for a few small builders under their own labels. These would not work for a multiscale bass unless they were mounted perpendicular to the centerline. These were wired with the coils in parallel which is why the DCR reads so low.

Welcome back! I like the natural finish. :cool: Unless it's been modified, you should have volume, pickup selector, treble, and bass controls. Either way, congratulations, and enjoy. :)

SJ5XXX owners, because of my advanced age (making long necks troublesome), I need to use mine for home seated practice, but my bass of choice for a couple of years has been one with vintage Thunderbird tones. My SJ5XXX, which worked fantastically for my now defunct Classic Country band, is too polite. So I may need to use (gulp) steel strings to get some attitude outta this bass. Are there any that feel more like nickels (I hate the feel of steels)?

So I was ready to order from Andertons last night, a white NG3 5 string, but the website said they had 1 in stock and none in stock at the same time. So I sent them a message to clarify whether they have it or not.

While waiting I saw they have a Combustion in Whalepool burst (looks pretty sick) so now I am thinking, should I just pull the trigger on the Combustion? My covers band plays a bit of everything, from the Beatles to Muse with a bit of pop and reggae thrown in just for fun. The originals band is a grunge/rock/metal thing.

Is the only difference (tone wise) between the Combustion and the NG the preamp? How easy is it to swap preamps? If that's the only difference I guess I could get a tone capsule later on.

DGTC is massively easy to install.

They’ll be too short. Get a a set designed specifically for fanned basses 37”-34” for best results.

Too polite in which context? What kind of music? What amp/preamps are you using?

DW nickels sound plenty bitey on my Super P if I have the tone control fully open.

Hard Rock. The SJ5XXX has had Dingwall nickels and now Sunbeams. It worked perfectly for my Country band and with the selector on middle/bridge in series it gets a little attitude, but doesn't get Thunderbird bite and growl. Neither does my Droc for that matter. My rigs are fine, that's what I practice and gig through. I know that's not the Dingwalls forte, so I'd be happy just to get sonically a little closer and think steels will help.

Preamps are SushiBox tube pedals, I'm addicted to them, and really happy with my Markbass 210/112 stacks.
