I'm more interested in those import Supers. Weight and time are issues. They need to be light like the D-Rocs, 8 lbs or less. And time is an issue, I'm running out of my gigging shelf life...

In any case, I've identified 2-3 basses I'm willing to give up to make it happen

Yes, great price. 1/2 lb or more too heavy, already have 3 great basses at, or less than that, and 1 a pound less. No more compromising for me. Too much sand has slipped through the hourglass.

How much volume can you give the neck before the bridge cuts out? Or is even the smallest amount enough to cut out the bridge completely?

It cuts out immediately

Curious? Are they the original dingwall pick ups or do they say EMG? It’s wierd that a new hole would have been drilled as there really isn’t options for them to go somewhere else. 9v-18v?

At what point does the bridge drop out?

also, FWIW, if they are dingwall pick ups they will be passive and should not have power going to them. If they are EMGs(aside from HZs), they will be active and like 18v


This is what I was attempting to ask.

Complete drop out at any volume. Original Dingwall branded pickups. 9v active system with a passive/active switch. The whole thing is weird with the little plugged hole in the route cavity and a hole drilled into the battery cavity from the neck pickup for the wiring. I am going to pull the pickups to see what's going on under them and maybe see something not right... Either way, there is something weird going on with the electronics and it may be as simple as the wrong wire connected to a ground or I don't know what

Yikes.. a lot of ugly solder joints on those pots. Might be easier to disconnect it all and start fresh.

Yeah. Jeez, my soldering isn’t great, but it’s way better than THAT.

Quite messy. That pot on the left looks like it could be causing trouble, since there is quite a lot of solder on there. I would look there first and if you don't know what to do, bring it to a tech who knows how to use a soldering iron to redo it.

Should be a quick job for someone with experience.

With a walnut body and Super Fatties, that thing should bring some deep bass. 'Tis a beaty.

Wow, thanks! That’s a great looking bass. I’m still thinking of doing some sort of a two-tone fade like your bass on the Dingwall I have coming. Different colors than yours because you were there first!

What colors are you thinking of?

I still have to see if some of this can be done - Dingwall has some of the very best paint jobs in the business and they’re willing to think outside the box. I like the idea of taking advantage of that. I dig this color scheme- it’s all metallic/candy colors

This one can be done again, you’d suppose…

Something like this one would probably need a bleached quilt-top with a super-custom finish. As I understand that the price goes up every time they have to change paints and nozzles.

Some of those finishes only work well on certain types of woods. I think I’ve settled on one or two solid metallic finishes that I’ve seen on Sklars, though.

I’m just a lightweight when it comes to this stuff and having a tough time sleuthing from the photos.

Ultimately the neck pick up is overriding the bridge.
