I haven't tried the darkglass in a dingwall, but i did in another bass and i couldn't bond with it. I have the glock in my SJP and love it.

Glock. The DG is way too colored for my taste. Is that Colaburst?

Was just looking at this baby yesterday thinking some sort of blue with the purple reverse burst & wenge w/ speedos would be fire! I'm sure yours will be killer too!

My NG3 6 is 10 even. So, depending on how many strings this one is (and accounting for the different wood)…maybe?

With the combustions the ash can vary the weight a great deal where as the Alder Ng is more consistent. I’ve experienced both heavy and light ash on the combustions.

that would be for you to answer based on your tastes.

the glock is fantastic and does have a passive tone control. Flat is virtually non existent but when utilized seems to just sprinkle magic dust on the passive tone.

The DG adds colour and is an incredible tool place yourself where you want to be in the mix…. Generally speaking on the heavier side of music.

my tastes have me loving the DG most of the time but still completely satisfied with a glockenklang if that’s what’s there.

I'll keep the Newtones in mind if the Fat-Beams don't work out.

I hope you all don't misunderstand, I'm not criticizing Dingwall in any way, I love what they are, and what they do; otherwise I wouldn't still have 2 of 'em. I just want a bit more bite, probably a result of 25 years of gigging on my 70 year old ears.

Alls well that ends well! I love the Fat-Beams on the SJ5XXX. It's totally transformed into a Rock bass, I wish I'd done this in 2019 when the Country Band dissolved, and I started playing Rock again.

First off, these don't feel like other Steels, they feel like nickels. But they have great attitude, a lot of sass and sparkle and are perfect for this bass in this genre. They would have been good for Country as well, with the tone rolled rolled off. I did have to roll the tone off a little, but that's good because when they settle in or lose a little highs I can get them back. In fact, I think I'll put them on the D-Roc. The tension of the light guage feels wonderful.

Also, the PUP selector is far more useful, I like all 4 positions, something I can't say about any of the 4 other Dingwalls I've had (with the caveat that I rewired it so the middle PUP is solo instead of the bridge).

So happy , and so glad this made-for-me bass is back in the rotation, it's far too good to be wall art.

My Payson nickels are still pleasing my ears after months of use. This is a good thing because they aren't presently available in medium scale. Hopefully, he'll do another production run before too long. They approach perfection (no such thing on earth) for me.

On a separate note (*Puns) D'Addario says that the Super Long set of the XL's will work on a 38" scale bass.. So I still have my fingers crossed

Wow, thanks! That’s a great looking bass. I’m still thinking of doing some sort of a two-tone fade like your bass on the Dingwall I have coming. Different colors than yours because you were there first!
