So, I got my new (to me) ABZ in yesterday. I’m gonna miss the D-bird, but the ABZ is phenomenal! Both my ABZ and AB1 are a little older with the older style rectangular pickups and are both passive which I’m just fine with (most of my other basses are active). Just waiting for the detuner for the ABZ to arrive.

My ABZ5 is the only bass I own now but it covers all my needs. Passive but very versatile. And I lean towards FDV pickups rather than FD3N cause I love Alnico5 magnets in pickups for their organic tone.

I’ve only seen one video where the differences between the two, I also preferred the FDV pups as well.

I’ve got that version and the one which allows more mid control and Sans Amp works best with them. Just mess with the presence and drive and holy crap

it’s a fine line though eh? Drive can get muddy. At least through my GK1001. I have the Boost low on that. Just so it’s working minimally

I’ve got my Presence pretty high and I don’t get much pick clip.

I am the opposite; I have a soft spot for white.

Same here. I really dig the interaction between white instruments and stage lights - and I definitely bought my Super P at least in part because it’s transparent white over ash had me drooling even in broad daylight.

Regarding tuners I‘m partial to black lollipops - no idea why these aren’t an option from the factory: To me, they are a perfect cross of vintage and modern and therefore so fitting on a Super headstock.

Lowered em a bit yeah. I’ve never really had an issue with pick click though.

View attachment 4945599 Hey guys. A few weeks ago I asked if there was a way to draw out more upper mids from my DROC. I can’t find that thread (buried now). Anyway I found what I was looking for. I’m really impressed. Maybe this is well known but this, specifically with the DROC sounds amazing. The main thing was the SansAmp v1. Again I know this pedal isn’t anything new. But in conjunction with the DROC and set as I show, you can certainly draw out those elusive upper mids.

Interesting ,I just looked that up. So you went this route to draw out more upper mid specifically ?

If so , did an outboard pre amp not do that for you?

I love my SansAmp. I'm a big, big fan of mixing different brands' drives and FX, they interact in crazy ways. SansAmp + DG B3K = awesomeness.

SF2, Glock pre amp and I am very glad I went that route. Given the tone woods, I was expecting a darker sound but it’s more crisp and tight sounding. The SF2 and Glock pre add some low end that the FD3s wouldn’t of as much.

If you don't mind me asking...did the custom Speedo inlays cost more than standard (mother of pearl I'm guessing?) speedos? I'm wanting colored speedos when I do my build!

Yep, it’s a black limba body, mac ebony board, wenge neck and accent layer, spalted maple top and speedo inlays.
The cost is slightly different for inlays, I think within $100, you could always do stained burled wood like Shade_1313 did on his Z.
