As someone who bought a D-Roc, fell in love with the tone and then bought an NG3 I'd say that selling the D-Roc for an NG would be the worst mistake. These basses don't really sound like each other, even with same pickup settings. I opted to get a custom pickup toggle with the outer pickups in a jazz bass configuration and my favourite, the middle pickup soloed. The jazz configuration on the D-Roc sounds absolutely killer.

Yeah I am so happy with the middle pickup tone, through my stack right now. There’s no way I would part with it. I was curious about the NG line but definitely doesn’t sound like it would be the right move. Especially instead of the DROC

only lingering bug is getting to some of the upper frets. A new strap with a tapered end helped…. It is what it is. I’ll hopefully get used to it

…also sounds like I should do the outer pickup mod for that jazz bass tone you referred to.

Is it an easy DIY (appreciate that’s somewhat subjective)

So here's a form and function update to my NG3.

I'm guessing some of you have already obtained the Neck Illusions inlay stickers for your Dingwall Combustions. With the bare fingerboard, I had issues with orientation in the upper register. When I got my ABI with Speedos, having the reference points really helps. Now I have the same thing with my NG3. Also, I think the purple/black swirls look pretty cool too.

I'm very happy with the sticker inlays on my NG-3. The visual aid is exactly what I wanted and they don't affect the playability at all. And, they just plain look cool.

I think my main question/concern is if I’m grinding on them hard am I going chew thru them pretty quick down in the lower register?

I'm very happy with the sticker inlays on my NG-3.

Another upvote for Neck Illusions block inlays. They look cool IMHO, I don't notice them at all when I'm playing (except for being massively helped by the visual reference) and they are not showing any signs of fading or wear, about two years in. Gotten many complimentary comments on the amazing inlays specifically, so I just keep my mouth shut about them being stickers!

You'd have to have a death grip on the fretboard. I play the crap out of my NG3's that have them and they show no wear at all.. 3+ hour gigs on the rasta stix. That low register is my home. The metal bass (El Dorado) is all drop C and drop A. No wear down there either..

I'm sad, my custom build slot fell through because of a very bad experience with a dealer. To top it off I'm having a hard time getting ahold of Dingwall about a warranty question on my NG.

I feel like my Dingwall dream is fading folks.

Cheer me up with something good! Hopefully this isn't normal and I've just had an unusually rough patch

I know they are slammed at the shop and short staffed but Sheldon himself has no interested in letting us bass playing Dingwall fanatics down in anyway.

I would recommend reaching out to him for sure. He does everything within his means to make sure you get what you want and as soon as possible.

did you get your NG through a dealer? That may be another option to follow up with on your warranty

I did actually, and that's a good call. I didn't think of that. I read the warranty info but wasn't clear on a few things, one of the reasons i reached outb to sales. I'll reach out to them for sure. (Different dealer for the NG and the custom build FWIW)

Bought the graph-tech nit from FN. My luthier was installing it, the factory installed nut was slathered with glue and even after heating and multiple applications of glue disolvant a chip came out of the headstock.

He repaired it functionally but it cosmetically annoying me.

I wasn't sure if that was something covered or they could help me with so I reached out. I know they say mods have to be done by a qualified luthier or else it voids the warranty. He is a pretty qualified luthier though.

I kind of figured it wouldn't be covered but figured I'd ask them

On the “falling out with a dealer” tip, I had a domestic Dingwall Dealer ghost me, which wasn’t appreciated. I expect anyone under 30 and those with slack manners to do that, but not a retail entity with a serious customer on deck. It wasn’t Fret Nation and it wasn’t John Fox.

I had money in hand, and presented myself as a polite, mature, and informed party ready to do business. Ended up doing a build slot with John Fox, who had the most streamlined solution to getting a bass with my specs in my hands.

hmmm. I’ve found the nuts come out with ease thus far. That’s not to say more glue could be applied to one vs another.

That may be a tough one to warranty. Damage due to modification.
