The ABZ used the EMG shaped pick ups up until about 2018 when Dingwall universalized all shells the the large rounds including on the combustions. It was the only AB model using those pick ups.

I got it from a store, so no.
I opened the electronics cavity to see if there's anything there but nah.
I don't feel like taking off the neck just to see. It's a hassle.

Would love to confirm whether it's just walnut or walnut/bubinga.
I have a 2004 ABII and a 2005 ABI and I can confirm that the pickup shells are the slightly rounded edge rectangular ones. My ABII does not have the scroll holes either. In 2004, they weren't doing solid or poly finishes on the ABII's; they were natural (or tung oil) finishes.
I think that it is newer or maybe it had a neck swap at some point as the serial number is on the back of the headstock.
I feel like it might be slightly newer than 2004. I am still waiting for a reply from Dingwall.
That suggestion to get a dentists mirror is great, sadly I do not own one.
What I did today, though, is that I took a flashlight and I looked at the edge of the F hole and, surprise surprise, it is very easy to see that there are two types of wood that make the body of the bass - one is darker than the other.
All around the chamber, evenly - is a distinct divide between the body wood and the top wood. Both of them have different textures (visually), it looks as if it would be rough and soft between both layers, but its all buttery smooth. I think that walnut/bubinga thing might be true!

Cool, I am getting a Nordy/Dingwall P installed (the bass is routed for it). I am swapping in an ACG/East EQ-01 preamp, maybe some additional switches put in. Getting a new paint job and pickguard too.
In other words, going all out.
John's preamps are righteous and Carey knows all too well how to wind a pickup! 
I'm looking forward to the new modified Dingwall pics...
Has anyone added the dingwall series parallel toggles to their bass? Gonna order the module from Jason just a little worried about the drilling. I’m pretty handy so it shouldn’t be too rough
Does it come with a template? If not Dingwall may be able to provide one
This entered the conversation last night. Just fired it up with the KK3 through the interface.. quite a good range of dirt. I'm gonna crank it later and see what we get. So far, I like the way it plays really well with the different pickup positions. Adds for some more tonal variety. Shot of the back for those who are curious...
