TI flats for a 6 string; a 5 string set JF365 plus a single JF34033 fits, but the tension is high. Didn't feel or sound great.

Dingwall does not use a proprietary size but their Canadian neck tool is an odd one. The nut comes off and is replaceable on your truss. At least it is one Canadian Dingwalls. I had to swap out the one on my ABZ within the last year, a cheap and easy fix.


They use Hipshot Ultralite HE6C in 3/8's. The Canadians use the same thing but with a special shorter bolt to allow the tuners to be recessed. You can get the latter from Hipshot but I don't think they will fit in a stock Combustion, they have to be recessed.

So if I wanted to get black hipshot tuners I can just go to the hipshot site and get the 3/8 ones?

When you order from Hipshot and tell them Dingwall, they will automatically assume Canadian model and ship you tuners that are too short. I went through this with my Combustion when I ordered a drop tuner from them. The first one they shipped was too short. After a quick call, an RMA and a new shipment, I got the correct tuner. I liked the Hipshot USA drop tuner better than the stock ones so ordered a whole set.

Had a chance to go out with my D-Roc again last night! I know this must've been said a thousand times already, but this instrument makes gigging such a breeze. It just works, I never have to tune during a set and I also don't need to baby it. I'm going to need more of these.

Odd question.. any of you that use an NG/Combustion and a pick, do you ever find the need for a wristband on your picking hand? I changed my strap height a little bit for my hard rock stuff, and my wrist is really feeling that upper bevel. Rubbin the skin pretty raw.. is there a preferred style of band to protect the wrist? I don't really wanna look like Hetfield if we can avoid that, lol..

If your concern is that wristbands look too metal, avoid black.

Muticolored (American flag or rainbow) would keep them from looking too serious…or there are lots of wristbands in the colors of various sports-teams.

This reminds of when I met Sharon Isbin years ago maybe decades ago. We chatted about wearing something on the right arm to soften the upper bout of the classical guitar. Her advice at the end was to wear something that complements your outfit. Just thought I would pass that along as Im certain James Hetfield may have gotten the same advice.

My SJ(P) is probably 2 weeks from being back in hand. I am thinking I will try a set of GHS Precision Flats 45-105 medium w/38” wind that I have laying around. Has anyone else ever tried those out on a Super?

Hi, does anyone have an extra pickup selector pot for two pickups? Seems that Dingwall has some elegant switches for this purpose and I'm planning on rewiring a two pickup bass.

A Fanned Flats Set designed from inception will always perform best with better balance from string to string.

FretNation usually has them. I got one from them when I completely changed out the pups and electronics on an Ibanez BTB.

Black Hipshot tuners for your Combustion are a standard size. Black Hipshot tuners for your Canadian model will need the recessed variant.

Mind you, my post (and my last Hipshot purchase) were 5~ years ago. Some things might have changed.

So I had a 6-way switch installed on one of my Dingwalls (NG3). I'm in an R&B cover band and for the older tunes (mostly James Jamerson on bass) I always used the neck-solo selection to approximate a P-bass tone. At my last gig I had a chance to use my new middle-solo pickup selection. When I heard it live I was like "Wow...that's more like it!"
