The neck pickup is in about the same place as a p bass pickup, and the middle is about the same as a Stingray pickup I believe. Both good choices to have available.

Divorce can be a hell of a thing (at least from what I hear, I’ve been happily married for 30 years) at least that’s my guess. Could be emergency expenses I suppose. Someone had to liquidate assets in a hurry. I doubt they got half of what GC is asking for it, either.

Im sure it is somehow. The D-Rocs do bridge and middle in parallel and then in series with the neck in one position (all 3 on). I’d imagine it’s possible.

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of speccing out a Custom Dingwall - I have two main questions if anyone is able to share wisdom!

I own a PJ, and I use the P pickup 95% of the time - but the versatility of the additional pickup is something I'm loving. I'm considering a 3 pickup J model - all P-tones.

- 1st, is the P tone single coil on the Jazz pretty close to a spilt-coil P pickup?
- 2nd, how noticeably different are the body shapes between the P and the J? It looks like the neck is the same on both!

I also appreciate any tips that anyone is willing to give out for this process :)

Doesn’t really answer your question, but all Dingwall pickups are split coil, usually in reverse P orientation. The only pickup I haven’t tried is the P-tone, which I suspect is in normal P orientation.

The P tone is quite comparable to the split P.
The body shapes hangs different from one to the other.

My 3x Afterburner may as well not have a neck and bridge pickup. I knew going in that I would be constantly soloing the middle pickup (it's in the sweetest of spots). :cool:

Check out the spec page on the Dingwall site. You can line up models side by side and scroll through the specs.

P body’s are thinner, and tend towards lighter weights. The top and bottom cutaways are more symmetrical and the bottom of the body at the bridge is more squared off.

J bodies cutaways are offset, and the whole thing is more curvy. Super sexy. Thicker and can accommodate active electronics.

Neck specs are slightly different with a slimmer J neck and slightly tighter nut.

Necks can be interchanged for a slight up charge, if you are ordering from scratch. So you could have a J neck on a P body ala Duck Dunn.

J’s can come with fancy tops and no control plate. I think all P’s have the big pickguard.

P tone pickups do the P thing whether they are in two shells like a traditional split P, or both coils in a single shell.

Super P’s totally get the P thing and the passive, single split P and simple volume and hybrid tone are great. The PJ’s give it another gear.

Just to follow up on this, centre of a Stingray pickup is about 777mm from the nut, which is also centre of the middle pickup. The bridge pickup is too close to the bridge to be in the Stingray zone. I’m not saying that both together is not the “Stingray setting”, but most of the Stingray tone is coming from the middle pickup due to its position.

this is of course a bit different on a D-Roc, and while I don’t have one to measure I suspect the middle pickup is more into the P position, and more similar to the neck pickup in the other Dingwalls.

I rarely use the bridge pickup on my Super PJ. The P-Tone on its own sounds way too good

Seems I‘m the odd one out… Well, just let the record show "middle pickup solo" is the least used of my D-Bird and D-Roc (I‘m usually in the "MM" setting) and I definitely prefer my Super PJ with both pickups in parallel, as well - though that might be cheating as there’s a P-Tone in the bridge position, so technically it‘s a Super Double P.
