I'm gonna sell the ABZ and order one in a color more my style. If anyone has one for trade in excellent condition hit me up. Don't care about what pickups or pre it has but do want it to be active. Not the biggest fan of coffee table tops but if something looks good it is good. Can add cash to make a deal. amazing bass but I was looking into stripping the finish and getting it repainted and realized someone out there might really like this finish.

In my experience on here, nice Dingwalls tend to sell pretty quick.

Over the past two years I've posted something at full asking price assuming it'd take at least a month and some negotiating to move it, but nope.

They just sell.

Someone is looking for a lightweight 5 string.
I suggested looking into the ABZ model but I haven't owned one/dunno how much they weight, really. They are lighter than the ABII, right?

It just didn't sound fretless enough to me, if that makes sense.

I considered swapping necks with another 6 I had to try it fretted but didn't want to break anything in the process.

Holy @#$% - my KK3 with Nolly guts is my new favorite bass. A change for the better in my case! The bass just didn't speak to me with the stock electronics.

I knew I was getting there, but Alder/maple/wenge is THE overall tone profile I've been chasing for a long time.. I've always done alder/maple and then usually pau ferro/rosewood or in this case maple with the NG's. After today - my opinion of maple/wenge for a neck is out of this world. The band noticed the difference in where my tone sat in the mix, it really tightened a lot of stuff up. Nice little built-in "growl" if needed too.. my compliments to the chef!:roflmao:

So glad I ordered that combination with my upcoming Z.

Oh that's interesting. I got my AB1 fretless not long after you and it's exactly what I imagined a fretless to be. (However, I have a Yamaha TRB5F which I was never quite happy with.) Which pickups did you have? I have FDV in mine.

Here's an instrument mix-down of part of a song featuring it (attached).

If it had sounded like that I'd still have it, nice tone dude.

Mine was very clear sounding, like a fretted bass. I tried TI flats, but no real change in that particular respect.

FDV Alnico according to the order sheet.

Yeah weird, that's the problem with my Yamaha. That recording was probably maximum mwah - that's using the MM setting (on a 3x) and the action was actually a little too low. But even higher action with neck pickup is still pretty good (second soloed snipped for you). And actually I might have the action height mixed up on those 2 samples, but it doesn't make a lot of difference. So dunno. FWIW, I imagine flats would be "smoother" sounding again with not as much growl.

Does anyone here know why the tool kit for combustions for sale on the Dingwall Store site has 4 wrenches instead of the 3 my Nolly came with? The larger of the two black ones did not come with my original tool kit. I wonder if something was modded later on that required a fourth, or did they just not have them at the time my bass was shipped? Inquiring minds want to know. :D

The Dingwall website has had a number of upgrades since the last time I visited. They are really well designed basses but quality doesn't come cheap, so if you omit fancy tops and other features which you don't use or that don't affect the tone what would it look like? For me it is a 5-string, 3-pickup, passive model around 9 lbs with a wenge neck/FB and 18mm string spacing. I also don't need 24 frets. What I ended up favoring was a D-ROC Custom. The strap balance seems surprisingly good and I like how that metallic red goes with the wenge. I also like the pickup combinations that the quad tone selector provides.

Most of my practice is done in the seated position. For those familiar with the D-ROC, is it comfortable to play in the seated position? Also, is there a tonal difference between wenge vs maple neck with the wenge FB or is it more of a difference in tactile feel?
