Hi, if I were to put on Dunlop straploks on a NG3, do I need to drill the hole deeper for the Dunlop screws?

Absolutely drill the holes out a little and measure the screw. Dunlop screws are much bigger and longer than the Dingwall default set especially with Dingwall Matt finish basses. The finish is very sensitive to torque. I have seen in person some horror stories of the paint lifting and chipping in the area.

So I bought this super P here. It was cheap enough that I committed to buying it knowing I was getting it refinished. Well many months later, it is here finally and boy am I happy! I used guitarpaintguys and the finish is ABSOLUTELY flawless. The old finish was fine but not my style. This new one is way more MY taste.. so anyways, feast your eyes! First photo is the before and the rest are after

Yup. What @gravesbass said. Use a 7/64" bit and go 7/8" deep. I swap these out a lot.



If you have an old candle or some paraffin, rub the screws on the wax to help lube them before going into the wood. Makes it a LOT easier.

Which pickups are better for djent/prog sound ala nolly, jacob umansky, jared smith, etc, fdv or fd3? I cant really decide

A lot of those guys are just using the standard Chinese made NG/Combustions. I have one and I can easily achieve those tones with a Darkglass or Darkglass adjacent pedal. The bridge and middle position is the sound though

Don’t have a caliper, but it’s seems like all 5 pots from my 2021 NG3 has 6mm shafts. Gonna get some new knobs.

Longer maybe, but I have never come across Dunlop straplok screws that were as large in diameter and thread pitch as normal strap button screws. My Dingwalls all came with Dunlops, so maybe they're the exception to the rule, but I've always had to stick a toothpick or similar in the screw holes to get Dunlop's screws to thread properly into wood.

^^ the original question was pertaining to NG3 basses. They have cheap strap buttons and the screw is smaller than a Dunlop.

There was a relatively recent video/interview that did not outright confirm anything, but Sheldon did acknowledge he has heard the demands and alluded to something in the works. So... maybe.

I installed a Payson bridge on my Combustion 3-6 - no problem. However when I plug it in the treble knob is hissing and get louder as I increase the amount of treble. It also has a snapping sound as I turn the dial. Any suggestions?

Someone will probably have better insight than I do - until the night shift comes in, I’d look at making sure there are fresh batteries on board, and being sure the ground wire is in proper contact with the new bridge. Best practice is to check that the exposed, uninsulated part of the ground wire touches bare metal of the underside of the bridge before it’s screwed down.

I heard the same thing and was thoroughly weirded out. It might just be that up until that timestamp, John is playing through the smaller cabinet and at times standing between said cab and the camera.

Doesn’t really matter: The Z sounds ace through the 810!

I think it’s a limiter kicking in - JF had those amps cranked. He doesn’t do heavy editing or run his signals through 20k worth of outboard gear like you hear on SBL, so there will be artifacts and slight issues with audio.

For Trade - Dingwall 3x 6-string FD3N (NG-3 pickups) for 3x 6-string FDVs

I'd like to trade the 3 6-string FD3N pickups that are in my NG-3 for a set of 3 6-string FDVs, since I think those are closer to the tone profile I like. If you have a Dingwall you ordered FDVs with and have been wanting to try FD3Ns instead, message me and we can work this out!

They are in perfect working order, but there is some light scuffing near the low string, since I have my action pretty low and play hard, so at times the string seems to make contact w the pickup. Attached a pic so you can see what I mean. Maybe I can pay for both shipping costs if yours are in better shape, to make up for that?

I'd have to figure out how to remove them from the bass since I had it wired for a 6 way fretnation switch, but I'll get that sorted once someone contacts me and shows interest. Please DM me if you'd like to chat about it.

Turns out the hiss and popping had nothing to do with the bridge installation - something has gone bad with my 6 way switch. Off to my tech guy for the solution
