I run the Glocks flat on my three active basses. I love the 'more of everything' they bring and being able to lower volume drastically without losing that tone...

Your ABZ is the trans black one I sold you if I'm not mistaken?? I wish I'd never sold it, but glad it went to a good home obviously!!!! That bass, a Super P5 and a D-Roc is a helluva trio!!!
I'd really like to try the Neve preamp. Passive would be next or maybe a tie between Neve and passive.

Yeah this is passive but when I bought it and took it home I didn't believe it until I opened the back control cavity and realised there was no battery, only then I believed it. Goes to show these pickups are sh*t-hot!

Speaking of exceptional instruments and the color white: I‘ve decided to keep my beautiful Super PJ4. I would have been sad to see it go, anyway, but what absolutely baffels me is the sale I made instead: A run-of-the-mill Fender. Done, cash in hand, in less than 24 hours. What gives?
I’m glad this club appreciates the finer things in bass.

Fender is a classic for many
Sure it is, and for one or two reasons.
As a seller, the difference in time (trying) to complete the sale was bewildering, though. Then again, I guess it’s simply a sign of the economy - the Fender sold, of course, for far less than even the lowest pricepoint I would have accepted for the SPJ.
I put my last Fender Jazz up for sale the same afternoon my first Dingwall arrived. (Early Super J 4 with a P and a super fattie)
I took photos and packed the jazz up in the box the Dingwall came in. Placed the ad, and it was sold in a day. So long, bon voyage!

I have a 2014 Super J XXX5 with FD3s and a glock preamp. I loathe that preamp, Hissy and tone swept in all the wrong places. IMHO it's the most out of place component on that bass. To me active preamps always seem to take some goodness away and leave some crap behind. If you want the Darkglass sound go for the real Monty. I've come to prefer the punch and purity of passive tone circuits. If I need more grind or coloring, I'll use an outboard preamp.

Sounds like there is an issue with your bass or rig if it hisses a lot.
I also have a Super J with the Glock preamp, though admittedly paired with FDVs. I can't speak to your preference for frequency sweep centerpoints, but I can say that mine has absolutely zero hiss whatsoever. It might be worth checking the bass over for a faulty component, wiring, etc. If the preamp is functioning correctly, at least in my experience, it is noise-free. Either do that or just always run it in passive mode

Slightly off-track question, related to finishes on Dingwalls (though applicable to other basses too).
If I meet a well-known bass player and start fanpersoning and want them to autograph my Dingwall, what do I use for that? Will just a regular black Sharpie be permanent, or will it just rub right off of the poly finish and then I'll be sad? Anything better? Is it different if they do it on matte finish (NG3) versus shiny finish (Super P)? Is it the same for other brands of basses, or is Dingwall ahead of the game on coatings too? Sorry if these are dumb questions... I've never done this to an instrument before, this chance is coming soon, and I'm reluctant to test!
