What does that say about headless basses?

The most expensive ones, i.e. Status etc, usually have composite necks or a great degree of carbon fiber construction. The new Steinbergers (by Gibson / Kaman Corp.) with wood necks are dogs to play and b*tches to keep in tune

I had a Zon Vinny four string for a couple years. There was nothing wrong with that bass. It did have a composite neck and excellent electronics. Very light weight. We just never bonded. It sounded great and played great, but I never felt really at home with it.

Also, the looks of it were just too strange for most of the guys I played with.

String changes were a hassle, but I could use a wide variety of strings. In the end, I moved it on and the cash it freed up bought my first Dingwall.

One of the things I love and hate about Talkbass: so many basses on the used market! It's like a big candy store. I'm glad I found my flavor with Dingwalls.

I'm so lucky because if there is something I do not like it's matching headstocks, each to his own but to me a headstock has to be plain clear maple, just like Leo intended.

I thought I was the only one lol
I think a matching headstock takes away rather than adds beauty.

the beauty of Dingwall as a company is their close relationship with their customers.
they appreciate feedback and listen with open ears to the needs/suggestions of the players. it is awesome that we sometimes can influence what goes into production on these great instruments (within the realms of good taste of course).
try to make a suggestion to Ernie Ball and let me know how that goes
dingwalls continuously evolve and Sheldon has the wisdom to know that there are very savvy people out there that are willing to offer him their genius ideas at no extra charge.

Re: Th Crooked neck. Yeah.......My MS Paint skills aren't all that. Pretty sure it will be built with a straight neck. . Probably easier to do in PhotoShop...just don't have that at the moment.

So, much hassle receiving this (the left and right hand of Fedex seem to work completely indiependently and unaware of each other), but this arrived yesterday just in time for practice yesterday and a gig tonight.

I hadn't played a Super J since I sold off my early Super J a couple months after receiving it. Besides the finish not being what I wanted on the first one, the main reason I sold it because I thought the solo'd bridge pickup was lacking. I remember reading that Sheldon had revised the bridge pickup at some point to be more aggressive. Assuming that's true, between the new pickup, the Glock pre and the extra string, this one seems to be killer. Its got that active jazz sizzle that you expect from boutique Jazz basses with the playability of a Dingwall. Super exciting! The pickguard will eventually be replaced with Black Pearl or Tort at some point, but want to make sure I plan on keeping the JJ setup first.

I'm with you & Zoomie. A matching headstock on a precision looks too pretentious. The only wood showing above the nut of a P or J with a maple finger board should be more maple.

I prefer the long-scales, and I love my Honey Amberburst ABZ.

That said, I still have a nostalgic thing about sunburst/tort with dark fingerboards and big ol' MOP block markers. Even though I left them behind years ago, I also have great affection for P basses. This started for me in childhood, leafing through my dad's Fender catalogs, and admiring the look of his archtop guitars.

I also love wenge necks, so your mockup pushes a lot of buttons for me.

Still waiting for someone to offer to buy one of my kidneys...

Nice Super J SmallEq... Let us know what you think after you get some playing time in. I don't spend a lot of time with the Bridge PU solo'd.

I love having all the options that you get with the J. But I also love the Super P tone! Good to have 1 of each!
