Or does the Sweetwater contract add more capital to expand operations and bring in the custom order timeline?

I hope the latter does not come at the cost of the former in the short term.

Although different goalposts and circumstances apply, none of these scenarios happened with Fodera, Lakland, Sadowsky, or Spector when Sweetwater became a dealer.

My remarks here are speculation based based on common-sense business function. Although it looks different right now, the Sweetwater add is about exposing the import lines to a larger buyer pool. Dingwall has several hundred standing custom orders and only a handful are completed each week - the wait times are going to be what they are. At this point, it makes more sense to measure those times in years, not months.

In the case of added capital, it’s very likely that any gains will maintain status quo. In the “we offer domestic customs and offshore imports” business model, the import lines essentially support the less profitable custom build efforts. This is the case with a few known builders that offer a boutique line and a less costly import line.

The costs of extra staff and machinery would probably outstrip any boost in profits from an association with Sweetwater. I can’t imagine that a significant dent in wait times for custom Dingwalls would happen unless the staff, materials, and machinery is doubled. The cost for that would be very prohibitive.

In general, I have wondered if Sweetwater is going to be a positive move, overall. I thought it might make sense for the imports. The small dealers are pretty awesome and I hate for them to be impacted. I am blessed to have 2 Canadians that I adore. I don’t see myself buying another for a longtime despite thinking 1 or 2 more would cool (6 string and a fretless of some sort).
36 months or 48 months at 0% interest can get me to do bad things though.

Been chatting with my Sweetwater rep about it all afternoon. As far as I can tell it's legit.

Decided that I should be the Guinea Pig, so I just pulled the trigger on it.

We'll see what happens.

On their website they all seem to say maximum width 52mm - do you have the exact reference of yours maybe ?

Rather than spring for multiple versions of the 6x rotary, or wonder if I'm missing out on something, I just ordered two 4x rotaries. The first one will be for the bridge and middle pickups:
1) Bridge
2) Bridge/Middle Parallel
3) Bridge/Middle Series
4) Middle

And the second will be for the first rotary and the neck pickup
1) Bridge/Middle rotary
2) Bridge/Middle rotary + Neck Parallel
3) Bridge/Middle rotary + Neck Series
4) Neck

From there I'll figure out what I like the best from the 16 options and go from there.

Intriguing idea. Though then you need to take out one knob. Do you find a stacked knob for Treble/Bass to open a space? Is there even room for another rotary in the cavity?

I'd be kind of surprised if you could fit a preamp and two rotaries in there, especially if you go with the Dingwall rotary with the screw terminals. Might fit but it seems like it's be real tight. Personally, and I don't mean to yuck someone else's yum, that'd just be too complex of a thing for me with too many interactions.
With that said, I'm going to finally jump in on the 6 way rotary for my next build, so I've been thinking about "what six" do I want... will be following along in this thread for what folks do, especially if they post recordings .

I decided at least for now to submit my build as FD3 + Darkglass. I might get scared of that and change it when it comes time to submit the real deal, but, I think I might want something 180° from what I already have going on. So my "main" three Dingwalls will be Bloodmoon Z (FDV + Glock), new Z (name tbd haha), and the Prima (PA? and Glock) just for Studio use. If that all works out, one of the old-old AB1s will get butchered into a multi-coil pickup + dual filter setup. Might further downsize the Dingwalls in my keep after that, too.

I should have added two things. One, that I'm planning on replacing the stock EMG preamp, and two, that both rotaries are meant to be temporary from the outset, and the results will inform what permanent control layout I go for.

Neck Lock is "inverted" put on backwards - but the Bridge Lock - Backwards too, or regular?
I can´t decide which is better for me. I don´t like either of both
