Dingwall Owners Club

D Roc Users - How do you set up your Strap Locks?
Neck Lock is "inverted" put on backwards - but the Bridge Lock - Backwards too, or regular?
I can´t decide which is better for me. I don´t like either of both

For straps I use with my birds, I reverse both: I actually enjoy the slight twist at the rear strap pin as it makes feel very connected to the bass (strap is pretty much upright next to my waist and then turns ccw downwards to the strap pin).

Sounds delightful! I didn't know Dingwall would do dual-density on Supers. Is that just "an artist" thing?
I’m not sure. I asked back in 2022 when I placed my order and they agreed to do it.
Maybe it’s listed on the current price list now.

IIRC, Sheldon Dingwall has stated that he designs his basses for clarity and pitch focus - so if anything, I'd expect a Dingwall to trigger an octaver more evenly and track better than other basses.

More realistically, you might not notice any difference.

Upon reading this I tried the octaver on my Boss GT1B (admittedly not the best on the market but still pretty good) with my Fodera Monarch and Dingwall ABZ and the Dingwall tracks MUCH better than the Fodera (which isn't exactly some cheapo bass). I think the increased tension on the lower strings plays a part.

SJ 4 - 3x
Dual density ash body (i think this is a first for Dingwall)
Roasted ash neck
Pearloid blocks
Luminlay green side dots
Natural to blackburst satin finish
Black hardware

Very nice! Sounds like my kinda bass! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Originally I wanted to spec it with a Wenge neck to match my current Super P, but Sheldon was very convincing stating his preference of roasted ash vs wenge :roflmao:

I am loving the roasted ash on my AB1 4-string.

If Ovangkol is still an option I’d consider that for a fretless build.
Ovangkol is very nice looking but only a 1330 Janka hardness. I personally like a harder wood for fretless.

Ovangkol isn't even as hard as hard maple.

Ovangkol 1330
Hard Maple 1450
Panga Panga 1640
Brazilian Rosewood 2790
Gaboon Ebony 3080
African Blackwood 3670
Snakewood 3800
Quebracho 4570

I do reverse for neck and regular for bridge, works for me and I can use the same strap for my D-Roc and for my Epi T-Bird (where reverse bridge would not work)

It's not on the official list but maybe on the 'if you don't ask you don't get' list.
From what I've heard and been directly told, if something isn't explicitly on the official price list, it can't/won't happen (at least for not-Artists). One dealer even mentioned that dealerships may get terminated if they try to put in an order that doesn't fit the template!

Edit to add: it didn't sound like the Dingwall crew was threatening dealers, just trying to be realistic and manage their 700+ backlog in an efficient manner. I told them that Sheldon should consider something between the Z and Prima in $ that allows a little more leeway in "off menu" ordering.
