Hey @AB Nate , do you have a stencil or something you used to do your scaled drawing / coloring for your finish example? I'm thinking of doing similar now.

I use Paysons to get the exact set I like. Contact Payson with questions, he's super helpful and he'll get you set up.
Nothing wrong with the stock Dingwall strings if they work for you. If you want lighter, or heavier or strange tunings, Payson has lots of options.
My basses (all, non-Dingwall included) have never sounded better since I have gone to in-ears. I don't have any fancy effects and modelling going on, just a DI from my head Genzler Magellan 800 or Pre/DI (also a Genzler). I play with a little compression and a few tunes with chorus and others with some light overdrive.
I could believe that from the experiences I’ve had.
Maybe a bit high but not unrealistic.
I am currently impaired by a few old fashions so my math could be a tad emotion based…

Welp, I got home from my work trip a little while ago. Exhausted & sore from being cramped up in an airplane for 8 hours today. Between flights, time between flights, and the drive home from the airport I spent 14 hours traveling today. And that's after flights in and out of multiple cities this week, 16 hour work days, and very little sleep.
YET, I still managed to find the energy to unpack the new Super J that has been waiting here at home for me since Monday (Freaking Kudos to Sweetwater for shipping it Saturday Afternoon & having it to my door Monday Morning). Tuned it up & played for about 45 minutes.
It's mind bendingly amazing!
That's all I have to say for now. As I get more playtime with it in the coming days I'm certain to have more to say, but right now my brain feels like mush. I'll also try to snag some pictures & get those posted as well.

My 6 string Z is 10lbs. Full wenge neck.
I don't have a Z with a maple neck to compare though.
Somewhere along the line thou your paint spec IS different. The one you used as a sample has a trans grey(?)burst from purple.
a recap of my story when this happened:
I submitted a drawing with my spec list originally. The final spec did change from what I had hoped. I removed a few “trim” options but the paint and top stayed the same. No custom inlay on 12, no slap pocket, no maple contrast layer but ultimately like this. The yellow represents maple.

This bass blew me away but it wasn’t what I ordered. I was a bit bummed from the result of the bleaching as I wanted more of the character that was originally in the buckeye top. It was missing toggles, wrong switch, and obviously not really on point with the requested colour scheme.
Freakin amazing thou!!! Damn… really… now I’m having thoughts that don’t make sense.
Anyways, Sheldon’s immediate response was to remake it in short order and so that’s what happened. I am very grateful how he and team responded and how it played out in the end but it was honestly very challenging to even consider the first bass as “not it”.
a new top obviously had to be selected and this bummed me out too but in the end I am incredibly pleased with the bass I have now. I have contemplated more builds since but I don’t know how anything else would give me reason to not want to play this. It would only be gluttony.

that very much looks to me like it has a grey stain on it. I’ve not seen a top so uniformly grey. Wood is not grey unless it’s dead and getting ready to rot and even then it doesn’t just have a tint to it unless it’s been exposed to weather for years like barn boards but even then you sand them down and the natural colour of the wood is hiding underneath.
I do agree the purple covers more area but those edges are tinted grey. I’d like to see it in a different light. It does look more natural towards the horns, especially the upper.
This is where my mind is as well, Nate. To me it looks like an entire color (the edge) is missing... the reference one looks like it had a gray (or maybe a blue-gray), where as the other one just went to straight natural with no color at all.
