I’ve been mostly using the neck pickup live :roflmao: It sounds close to the Super P, but in a more “transparent” kind of way.

My Super P “sits”/blends more in the mix, the SJ cuts through with the tone fully open. The tone can get pretty dubby if I close the tone control around half way, which is pretty useful for me because we switch styles mid-song and throughout the set between rock, ska, reggae & latin.

However, I had to bump up the gain on my live preset quite a bit. The FDVs are much quieter than the Neo P-tone.

Nice shots @IvanBassist! Bass is looking sharp! Makes me feel a little a little less like posting this clip but hey.. I can take it :D :bag: This is from last weekend, I came down with COVID a day or so after and didnt feel like posting much over the week. This was the first gig I used the Bergantino Super Pre into IEM and FOH, it sounded KILLER! one of the last gigs with the finger splint though.. got all 4 digits back, kinda ;):roflmao:!

Use headphones or monitors plz.. Hope ya like guitar solos! :bassist:

String availability is going to vary depending on your location. Of course, you can always have string shipped to you, but having a dealer close or at least in your country is going to help.
Back in 2010 I had to import Dingwall strings from the US to Peru :roflmao:

The Super basses can handle lower tunings for sure, but it’s hard to beat the extended scale length of the other models.

I'm in India (big fan of your channel btw), so that's the only thing preventing me from importing a Dingwall. Wish they had an authorized dealer here.

I have to give a big THUMBS UP! :thumbsup::thumbsup: to Dingwall Tech Support, Ryan in this case.

My SJ5 stopped working. Only passive mode produced sound. Within hours I got an email response and he worked me through troubleshooting the bass. Even offered to send a new pot despite the bass being years old. But we got it back online with some contact cleaner and all is well again!
Service like this reminds me of the old days and reminds me to buy from decent companies, even if the cost might seem high at first glance. On the long run it isn't.

Amen, brother. Sheldon's instruments are not inexpensive, but they are worth every penny. They also save me money in the long run, because I have no desire to even try anything else because I can't imagine instruments that are more perfect for me. :cool: :cool: :cool:

Enjoyed playing the SJ5 & D-Bird at a Corporate gig in Racine, WI this afternoon.

This despite the fact I was the only band member to get the full force of the sun (on a hot day)! :eyebrow:

The things we bass players put up with! :rolleyes::D

Typical. Gotta bring your own tent too it seems.

the only member with adequate transportation, extra cables… gas, quality gear, money, bookkeeping abilities, soundman abilities… and the list goes on.

Nice shot of Frank Lloyd Wright's famous Research Tower, BTW. As a backdrop, it beats the pants off the location of our most recent "corporate" gig--on the asphalt in this parking lot behind a strip mall with NO tent, facing west...in the afternoon. Good fundraising cause, however.
