I picked up my old parallel fret 6 string for the first time since getting a Combustion 6 and I'm experiencing a disgustingly persuasive optical illusion: I swear the higher frets are now angled...but in the opposite direction than any other fanned fret instrument. I've never seen people write about this. Has anyone else experienced this? Granted, I have a condition in my left eye that makes it like the world is a giant funhouse mirror, bent reality, but still.

The differences used to be bigger when they were first introduced where the I's only had an optional flamed maple top, but everything else was sort-of "base" model: passive electronics, alder body, maple neck, wenge fingerboard. The Afterburner II's had more wood options and active electronics.

Now, both can carry lots of options but probably the biggest difference is that the Afterburner II's have the chambered bodies with the scroll holes.

5-string fans? With a lot of money? I'll post this here:

The newly released Ampeg VB-88 (ported 8x8) seems to really produce its advertised -3dB @ 28Hz. I'm not sure about its other claimed specs. To me it is very smooth and beautiful all the way down to low B (because its response doesn't collapse on the way down there).

I don't have a lot of money, but paid the terribly high price due to "0% and no credit check". :-)

Pretty close to getting started in earnest, although I have a few components I’m waiting on. Nothing’s arriving tomorrow, it’ll be a fine day to make a template so I can get nice, even spacing on the series/parallel switches (need to locate and drill two holes, since I’m using the space where the active/passive toggle was for a S/P switch, and moving active/passive to a combo volume pot/push-pull switch). If I get the holes in place, and with the pot/switch due to arrive on Tuesday, I’ll be able to wire up everything but the six-way, which I’m still waiting on.

I have tested that cabinet. It’s definitely much more articulate and has more midrange than the traditional fridge.

Hi guys,

I'm waiting to recieve my new bass guitar, a NG3 4 strings.
I've ordered a set of spare strings from Dingwall but i'm wondering what are the alternative in 2024.
I usualy play my warwicks with Ernie Ball or D'addario on 45-105 for E standard tuning.
Is there anything that suits to NG basses?
What's the option for a Drop-D tuning?

I've seen a lot of posts about this but it's not a easy topic...

Contact FretNation.com. Lots of options for four string longscale Dingwalls.

I’ve used DR’s, TI jazz flats and rounds extra long, Infeld superalloy, and plenty more….

For drop in fit order some Payson strings, he’s got plenty of options in nickel and stainless, plus lots of gauges and singles.

Some strings are tapered at the ball ends, some aren’t. That makes set up faster or slower as the saddles and intonation need adjustment.

So far, most DR 4 string sets have been long enough on the E string.

The last xls I ordered were not long enough, but there might be longer DAddario sets.

Dingwall usually ships with balanced tension sets.
If you’re used to D’Addario 45-105, a balanced set with Dingwall scale lengths would be 45-60-80-105.

If you spend a lot of time in drop-D, increase the low string to 110.

The low string should be the only one that will need to be extra-long scale.
