welllllll....looks like I have to join another Talkbass club. Just pre-ordered a 4 string green SP-1. Jason @FretNation is going to set it up for me BEAD when it comes in.

I've been playing a medium scale 5 string (Spector Bantam) as my #1 for the past year. Have never owned a Dingwall or a multiscale. I've really been drawn to the green every time I've seen it show up.

Another vote for wenge. Having the fretboard and headstock match is a sleek look.

That said, the matching headstock on my NG isn't terrible... 😅

I'd likely match the body, but that's me and I own one that just has the wenge headstock and I'm ok.

I think the Z looks better body-matched. If it were an Afterburner, I’d say wenge.

-Price-just above base spec AB1.
-Outsourcing some finishing work to local luthiers (very curious about this one as there are a bunch of luthiers in the area). I actually had that thought not long ago that they could use some local shops to do some of the rough cnc work or something.
-Time line for import super roughly Feb 2025, price below NG/Combustion (did I hear that right??)

the only thing I don’t really like about it is the name.

Perhaps it should be called the ABF (AutoBahn Fast!!!) hahaha

I heard talk of a ~$2k price point but that was before the price increase of other models. Guess I’ll find out since I already dropped my deposit!

It sounded to me like the outsourcing was mostly for finishes, rather than the cutting and shaping.

Hey all - more than likely there will be a custom D-Roc 5 or ABZ5 (or both) coming up for sale shortly as I have finalized specs for a new build. John Fox has been awesome to support my ever changing choices and I can't speak enough about his patience and attentiveness.....can't wait for the Z in a few months.

Specs:
Z3X
SF2 Pickups & Neve Preamp w/toggles
Figured Redwood Burl top natural finish w/transparent black rear finish
Roasted ash neck / wenge fretboard w/ speedo bars

The finish was the toughest part........from natural ash to unique color-shift to a top.....there may just be too many options!
