Carvin had a BB75 (Bunny Brunnel) model 5 string with an asymmetrical neck so that it felt more like a 4 string and the dots on the fretboard were lined up/centered with the EADG strings. Never got to try one, but it seemed like a good idea.

Tangentially related story time.... This sounds like a great idea until you're playing an instrument that actually has color coded strings (Harp.... all the C strings were Red) and you show up to the gig and the carpet is red and now all your visual references have disappeared because the other strings are clear.
Also related because.... More than 4 strings & Fretless.
I always wondered why harp strings had colored strings. Now I know. Thx!
Reviving an old discussion but I was wondering - did anybody try Hipshot mini-clovers on a Dingwall Super? I have an inkling to try but I am afraid they will "look" a bit small. Any thoughts?
For reference;
What flatwounds would people recommend for a super P with J pickup? Pickups are standard P pickup in the neck and a p tone in the bridge. I’m mainly playing my ABZ4 and Warwick Masterbuilt Streamer for my band, so I’m looking to maybe put flats on the PJ so that I don’t have to keep swapping strings on it.
This. Maybe they are hoping this will redirect some of the custom traffic (and perhaps some of the Combustion/NG traffic, but they get a better profit margin)? Otherwise it seems like you're just adding more work.

I watched the video and was going to approach it from a producers standpoint and the winner would be the bass I’d suggest you use for a given recording. Well, I still don’t know which is the winner, just that neither is the loser.

What's up everyone! Been a bit since I've been on the thread... New Door 13 single dropped today - The first single featuring my most awesome Z. Love it! Love the idea of making the made in Canada basses more accessible. I’ve never been a fan of expanding by bringing in the import line. I understand financially why it makes sense, but I’d much rather see something like this fast lane concept at the base of their product line.
I'm so curious about the price point and who the target market is. With the preamp and wood options it has to be more $$ than a base option ABZ so presumably it's not for someone with just a slightly higher budget than combustion wanting something fancier.
I’m not sure. Sheldon says Custom Shop quality but without the Custom Shop wait, but nothing on price. Maybe it could be along the lines of the Fodera Standard line, that is less expensive than a base custom, but perhaps not.

To start with, I’d say it’s “less metal”. The wood selections and electronics are virtually opposite of the NG line.
So perhaps this is gear towards the crowd that’s afraid they will sound too metal with a dingwall?
In addition, the equipment used (new minimalist bridge) and the CNCing is decreased by the less complex build.
Example, flat head stock, and this would lead to less material cost and less time involved. Less time per bass spent on the machine allowing them to move more basses through the CNC.
I’ll assume he’s picked up an additional(or plans too if this bass takes off) CNC machine for this line which would then minimize interference with the other builds. With the right staff inplace(assuming he has the facility) this could even lead to increased production as perhaps some overlap could take place on both machines?
Of course he needs people to make this all work but perhaps and I hope he has this in place already.
My guesses anyways.
