On Facebook, they said one goal was to bring it in at a savings, compared to a comparable custom. That said, it’s still all Canadian made at the Dingwall factory. Oh, also they said that they’re still looking at what is doable, within the aim of the project, for finishes.

I really like that wood combo and that they have gone back to Roseqood for the fingerboard.

I didn’t get a good look at the head stock but wonder if it will be more combustionish then AB

The body looks very simple slab.

Yeah, more Combustionish. It’s got the little nubby string retainers for the strings that aren’t at the sides.

I wonder how Dingwall will slide this into an already behind schedule shop. And I really hope it doesn’t bottle neck the company any more.

I wonder if rosewood will make it to the options list, I was really wanting a rosewood finger board for my Super J

I went for a 5 string having in mind that a 4 string is like "Oreo light" as read above... but I have 0 experience with 5 strings...

looking forward to mastering (or at least playing OKish as I'm not by far an expert) this new instrument !

I went for a 5 string having in mind that a 4 string is like "Oreo light" as read above... but I have 0 experience with 5 strings...

When I jumped to 5 string, I kept wishing someone made a set of strings where the B string was a different color. It would have made retraining the brain much much easier. Once you get over that low string not being the E string, the five actually becomes easier to play than a 4. A lot of position shifts can be eliminated.

my brain definitely likes fours and sixes more than fives. Even a six that’s F# standard tuning clicks in my brain better than a five.

The Fast Lane looks like a really cool bass. The concept is somewhat comparable to what Fodera does with their Emperor Standard line. Well appointed but no customization. I like the electronics package. I think it will be a hit if the price is right. If it's like $3500, might be a consideration.

Tangentially related story time.... This sounds like a great idea until you're playing an instrument that actually has color coded strings (Harp.... all the C strings were Red) and you show up to the gig and the carpet is red and now all your visual references have disappeared because the other strings are clear.

Also related because.... More than 4 strings & Fretless.
