If you are happy with a 2 pick up layout and don’t need a preamp I think it really comes down to look and comfort style between P vs J.Maybe someone that has played both can help. P or J? I’m thinking J. Here’s why - I play mostly the P or J positions on my Afterburners and the J neck sounds more like a P than the PJ in parallel sounds like a J. So I could go with a 2 pickup J and be happy. I rarely use the MM setting.
I really found my P SUPER comfortable. Potentially more comfortable then any of the Js I’ve had.
Hardly ever playing my Super basses made me come to terms in the fact I was hoarding them without reason other then greed and lust and decided to keep only one.
I did keep my first SJ I had spec’d as it has been my favourite the whole way through and it’s got some sentimental value over the others too but it was a really hard toss up between the P and another J I had also as they were all soooo great in their own ways.
FWIW, I’ve had 1 P and I think 5 Js
